I had a good day. Got up early to go with
Techie, 'Stina and
Amythest to Scarby. Got there around
11 am, met up with Nymaz and
Strongbow. We went to a bunch
of good shows, especially funny was Iris and Rose (bawdy wench songs, thought
I was going to break a rib laughing.) and Ziltch the Tory Steller (Romeo and
Juliet in spoonerisms, hysterical as always). I was good, I only spent about
$10 at faire, on food and performer tips. Got home around 5:30 today, made
dinner and have been watching Mythbusters and reading. I'm pooped, but I
want to stay up and watch Dr Who tonight, since I didn't watch it Friday.
Then back to the salt mine at work. Weeeeeeee. Laters gators.

I had a good day today, woke up around 10ish, bummed around the house til
around noonish. Got some lunch, ran by Target, then came home and did alot
of cleaning. Dumped a bunch of trash, house almost looks livable. Watched
the last two episodes of
Babylon 5 season 3. Then I headed up to meet up with
Amythest and head out to
Medieval Times. Once there
we hooked up with Techie,
'Stina, Strongbow and Ken the websiteless.
It was fun, especially the falconry exhibition. What can I say, I like
falcons. It was a little more expensive than I liked, but it was fun. Tomorrow
we're going to Scarborough Faire,
to continue the time trip ;) Then, Monday and back to the slave pit.
Hopefully next week will be calmer. But for now I'll veg out at home, with
one of my favorite horror movies,
From Beyond. Another Lovecraft adaptation that has very little to do with
the story it's based on...but any movie with Barbara Crampton in a leather
outfit is good enough for me. *grin* I'll babble more tomorrow, have a good
night.

Well I picked up a replacement satchel last night, since my old one was showing
a little too much wear and tear. Walmart, $10. Yes I know Walmart is evil,
but they're cheap and I'm stingy, so there *grin* Almost exactly the same
as the old one, save a second internal compartment (which screams out 'book
space') and a metal label on the front saying the brand. Otherwise, same
layout. For those who don't know me in RL, this bag goes everywhere with
me, since it usually has...
My pda.
Books (yes, plural...I usually have two with me at any time. Addict, nah).
Assorted drugs (OTC type...I get headaches too often to go without meds)
Pens
Maglite
Jumpdrive
Contacts stuff
And whatever else I feel like carrying that day. Hey, it's good to have assorted
stuff with you when you are out and about.
Especially the books ;)

I've got a serious case of the blahs. Some if it is work foo as usual, some
of it is post vacation letdown. I'd been looking forward to my vacation, and
now it's done. And while I did get some good rest, it doesn't feel like enough.
So now I'm done with vacation and back to the slave pit. It doesn't help that
I didn't sleep well either last night, so now I'm down and pooped. And no
reason, that's the worst part. If there was a reason, it could be fixed, or
at least accepted. Now, the reason seems to be the day ends in 'Y'. Feh.
Not sure what I'm going to do about it, if anything...well besides going to
bed early tonight. And watching Who's Line is it Anyway, that's a fairly
effective laugh generator. *crosses fingers*

Today I got my test bed Windows 2k3 server up and running. Well it was up and
running back on Friday, but I went and tinkered with the firewall, and locked
myself out of the server. Doh. So once I got a bit of a lull at work, I
ran over, logged into the physical server and disabled the firewall. Went
back to my desk, relogged in, reset the firewall correctly this time.
I also got Cygwin installed and configured,
so I can ssh into the server as well as remote desktop. Still not 100% sure of
what I'm going to do with this box, but it should be fun.

Well here is my report for the campout. We left out Saturday morning bright
and way too early. Got up to
Turner Falls about 11, the was some issues with the cabin, so we
(we being Nymaz,
Amythest,
Strongbow, and websiteless L. We
headed up the castle at Turner Falls. A antiquities professor at Oklahoma
University built this as a replica of a medival castle/summer home. Very
cool, save all the idiots who write graffiti on the walls. Idiots.
After exploring that, we had a picnic lunch, unloaded stuff at the cabin, then
hung around the campsite for a while. Amythest as queen of event planning
setup a scavenger hunt. Lots of items normally found around the park...save
one...a feather. Feathers should be easy, but noone could find one to save
their souls. Finally, I thought outside the box...ran back to cabin and grabbed
Amythest's down pillow. So hurrah, my team won.
As the day went on, it cooled
off, so we went hiking. There is a natural cave, so we checked that out.
It had a great view over the falls, then we wandered a bit. And I got an
urge to see if I could rock climb down to the river's edge, which is about a
50-75 foot decent. Nice fun scramble, if a little more vertical than usual.
Getting back up was harder, definitely was one of the harder scrambles I've
done. And FUN. I love rock climbing, especially when I get to somewhere I've
never been before, especially when it's a real challenge. Got back up to
the top, and boy was I tired. We staggered back to camp, made dinner.
Everyone else had brisket, I had hotdogs. What can I say, I've never liked
brisket. After dinner we sat around talking, roasted marshmellows and
generally relaxed. Eventually we all went to bed, though I had some issues
sleeping due to a bit a snoring. But I had a good book, so it wasn't all
bad. Btw, if you are a fan of H.P. Lovecraft or the movie
John Carpenter's 'The Thing'
go pick up a copy of
Hive by Tim Curran. Very
good as a sequel to 'In the Mountains of Madness' by HPL.
Sunday I woke up with the rest of the gang. Had breakfast (cooked cinnamon
apples) packed up and headed on home. Got back in town around 2. Unloaded
stuff at Amythest's, then headed home to drop off my stuff and check on
critters. They seemed to have missed me a tad. Then I met up with
Amythest and Strongbow to go see
Silent Hill. Very good
scary flick, especially for a videogame adaptation. I recommend it for anyone
who likes scary movies. After the movie I headed back home, made some dinner,
and generally turned into a vegetable. Went to bed around 11, and slept
soundly all night. Yay me. Today I've been vegging and watching Bab5
episodes and generally not doing much of anything. Yay for rest and relaxation.

Well it's been a few few hours. Last night I woke up around 1am, went
and checked my phone (work had threatened to call people in for "an issue")
Issue didn't happen it seemed. Get back to bed, listen to the storm for a
second, reach for the light...*boom* power gone. Grumble, alot. When the
power didn't come on in a few min, go and unplug the hardware. Not having
a repeat of last year's hardware fry. And wait for the power to come on.
Now, as many of you lot know...I'm claustrophobic...and the big trigger,
lack of air moving. In every room there's a fan in my place, I have on at
work, even if it's 20 below outside, I have the fan going in my car. I
like moving air. So power outages suck. Open the bedroom window,
this doesn't help plus I get twitchy...last big outage was when Trinity got
out though said window. This did not help me sleep. Finally doze off,
and at some point the power comes back on. I don't notice, but I assume
my body did since I got some real sleep. Wake up to the sound of Cassie
meowing, look at clock. 12:00 on blink. Oops, look at phone, 8:15. Crap.
Get up, close window, pet cat, scritch ferrets, shower, get dressed and
head to work. Only 15 min late. Mental note, get UPS for alarm clock
at some point. Also get UPS for computer hardware, but I've been saying
that for a while now. ;)
On to better news, I'm going to have a new server to play with. I talked
work into setting me up a Windows 2k3 server for experiments. So I'll
be playing with MS DNS, using Imail for a backup MX, MySQL under Windows,
and all the other things I've been meaning to learn, except that I didn't have
the hardware to play on. Server name, of course it's going to be mythos
related, so I should have Yog-Sothoth up and running tonight/tomorrow. Just
in time for me to go camping.
Yay for vacations, boo for having to teach people to cover for me for 2 days
of work. I ended up taking time out of my busy day to write out documentation,
and bet you cash I'll have a pile of work to do come Tuesday. It never
fails. But the boss wants it done, so it gets done. Wee. Later today
I get to go back to the oral surgeon, get my socket looked at. Should be
fine, haven't had alot of pain lately. Hopefully it will be an in and
out thing, and back to work. Wee. Then tonight I plan on vegging and
doing laundry...and going to bed VERY early. Sleep, perchance to dream.
Yay sleep. *crosses fingers*

Well, it's Thursday Tuesday and it's hot as hell in Texas. Rolling blackouts are
suppost to happen today, since the electic company got caught flatfooted
by the sudden temperature change (from spring warm to blastfurnace hot)
Not fun. I'm really wishing it would go back to comfy, hopefully by this
weekend, so we're not camping in a sauna.
Tooth foo is getting better, last night I had some rather bad pain, but
I think it was more sinus than jaw...hydrocodone and sinus meds knocked it
out shortly, then I was knocked out. Haven't taken any more hydrocodone since
then, trying to go cold turkey...makes work easier, not being in a fog. Not
much else, I go in for a check up with the surgeon on Thursday, then off
Friday and Monday. Hurrah for 4 day weekends. Hopefully I'll get some
rest, just in time for the summer of doom.
On the work front I just finished a long ass project, migrating web domains
off of old servers to new hardware. 24 servers, 350 domains. Oy. Made
for a busy last few weeks, but hopefully I'll be able rest for the next
couple of days, or at least I won't be working 110% of capacity. Then,
a nice long weekend. Yay long weekends. And now, it's time to veg.

Well the end of the weekend is here. Spent the day watching Babylon 5
episodes mostly. Jaw is achey, occasional fairups into real pain. Work should
be fun tomorrow with painkillers. Hmm, stoned server configs. Probably should
see if advil knocks it down well enough so I can keep coherant at work, and
save the good stuff for home/sleep time.
Been enjoying the Babylon 5 marathon, finished up Season 1 today, and I'm
making good headway into Season 2. This is going to be very addictive.
Definitely been on a huge scifi kick, reading alot of scifi along with watching
Bab5. Now this doesn't mean I've given up Cthulhu and Tsathoggua and
Dagon as reading buddies, but it's fun to go back to one of my oldest reading
loves...good ol Sci Fi. Hmm, now to combine the two..."These are the voyages
of the Starship Cthulhu..." Well, I think it would be fun.
Tomorrow is work, yay work. *thud* I hope it's a quiet week, it will be a
short week. 4 day weekend coming up, hopefully it will be nice and cool up
in Turner Falls. And hopefully I'll get some nice and good rest out of this
next weekend, make up for the less than fun of this weekend.

Well I got dragged out of the house to help celebrate a few people's bdays.
We went to Main Event, hung around talking for a bit, then...bowling. Now
I haven't bowled since I was in college. Now I never was a good bowler,
and it didn't help that I was medicated to the gills. But I did get a few
gone throws in, including two strikes at the end. It was fun. After
bowling, some of the gang played lasertag, but I decided that playing while
medicated would be bad. So I played a few games, won a stuffed pelican
for Amythest got a lift home,
and now I'm watching TV, thinking of sleeping soon. Yay sleep. Tomorrow
I plan on spending the day resting and watching Bab5. I need a good rest,

I've been enjoying season 1 alot. Other than some of the DVD have been

the first season, before things get dark later. I may try borrowing the
missing episodes from Techie. But
it's fun.
I slept fairly well last night, I'm feeling a few twinges here and there.
Had soup this morning, yay for protein. I still rather have something more

taste good and be very soft. I see eggs for lunch shortly. Yay eggs.

Well, 8 hours post surgery. Watched a few Bab 5 episodes, enjoyed muchly.
The bleeding mostly stopped an hour or so after I got home. Been eating
pudding alot today, want real food...but I'm staying a good patient. Took
a nap, woke up kinda sore and twingy...off to the drugs. Yay drugs. And
I just got a very nice suprise, I was expecting a check up call from my
oral surgeon's office. I wasn't expecting the surgeon to be the one calling
to check up on me. Now that's a new one. A nice suprise to have a doc
check up on you. I definitely recommend him for anyone in the Mid Cities
area needing dental surgery.
As usual when my diet is limited, I am having major cravings for food.
Salt this time. I want chips, nachos, scrambled eggs with paprika and salt
and cheese, omelets, especially the omelets. I had a dream while I was napping
about making a giant omelet the way my dad did when I was a kid. Sunday
mornings dad would make omelets for me and him, usually including leftover
stuff from the week. These were usually gigantic, and stuffed with things
I've never seen in an omelet since, hamburger, polska kielbasa, chinese
beef from takeout beef and broccoli, and other things. Mom never joined
us, not a breakfast person, so it was me and dad time. When I got older
we stopped as a tradition, since I wasn't getting up til lunch...instead
it was dinner whenever it was me and dad home alone, and still fun. I've
made them a few times over the years myself, but I don't make omelets as
well as dad did, but I think I'll make some time to practice this week
and use up the ton of eggs I have. *hungry* Ok, back to TV and vegging.

Then rather suddenly he dove in, yank yank yank, no more tooth. I had a little
discomfort, the yanking bugged the hell out of me, and there was some pain
while he was doing something...not sure what, might have been removing
roots or something in the gum itself. Then no more gas, feel less loopy, if
very numb. Call mom, message friends, get drugs (yay hydrocodone) come home.
Now I plan on vegging out and watching tv all day. Wee. :) Babble at you

Silly post time, was watching $40 a day on Food Network, and they had a
lobster place, where you picked your own lobster. Which reminded me of
living on Long Island as a kid/teenager. My parents and I would go to the
beach most weekends in the summer, and on the way home we'd stop by
this lobster place to get Mom and Dad lobster, then I'd get a pizza. Everyone
was happy. I hate lobster, I blame being chased by them as a small child
(Story time later). But I could pick a good lobster according to my parents,
and I took rather gleeful delight in watching them cook. *grin* They'd
steam em, wrap them with insulated foil, and they'd still be hot by the time
we'd get home. Made for happy parents. Well, I was watching the show, and
I was thinking about those fun days...and I was trying to remember the name
of the place, I knew it started with a 'J'...but I finally gave in, called
Mom...she remembered. It's
Jordan's Lobster Farms, still in business. *grin* This makes me happy,
a happy memory from when I was kid. Mostly I remember the not so good stuff,
it's easy to focus on bad stuff...but this reminds me of the good things.
Must remember the good things in life. So, if you're in the NY area, and you
like lobster...you MUST head on out to Long Island and check this place out.

I also got a few groceries for the next day or two. I get paid tomororw,
so this week I'll do the real shopping. Especially for post surgery next
Friday. The not so good bits, I've got a case of the Sunday blahs, I perked
up some after cleaning, but back down again. Usual meh feeling, unable to focus
on stuff...general moodyness. Sundays suck, since my brain keeps reminding
me tomorrow is Monday, and the start of another craptastic week. I'm not
looking forward to the work grind, nor the surgery. *yawn* This is turning
into a more depressing post than I planned. *meh* It's not all bad, I'm
just not as perky as I'd like to be right now. Maybe this week will go by

broken a bone in her big toe...and it's been broken a while. That would
explain the swelling, pain, etc. The rest of these quacks,"oh it's just

Phoenyx - Yo Ho!

Well, after work I got to do some more geeking.
Amythest just switched to DSL from
cable, got the line and modem setup, but was having issues with the router
she had. Ok, superfox to rescue. Get over there, all the cabling looks normal,
the wired computer can hit the router fine, but nothing past it. Wireless
computer, no dice at all. Ok, try to login to the router, none of the remembered
admin passwords work. Call a friend, have him look up the reset and default
passwords on the model, get it reset, login. Now according to another friend,
this was suppost to be a PPOE setup. Ick. Try that, no dice, try all kinds of
password combinations, no dice. Look on the computer setup, see nothing for
a PPOE setup on it, just straight TCP/IP, but the machine worked fine when
plugged straight in. Checked it again, yep it works...no PPOE, resetup
the router, configure it for straight DHCP and TCP/IP and bam, on line. Woo
for me. Now to resetup the wireless.
I know squat about wireless, I got mine working at Chez
Cabal23, but that was alot of guess work
and grumbles. Go to Amythest's main computer, it says no wireless connection.
Ok, to be expected. Have XP look for networks, find 4 in the neighborhood, two
marked as linksys with no security...ok which one is the one I just enabled...
reset the network name on the router (aka run back to the living room #1),
refresh, ok finds the network. Doesn't connect. Try again, ok...that worked.
Wee, I can surf. Now to secure it, hit the router from the wireless box,
enable security...get kicked. Expected that, try to login...crap. Set the
wrong something or other (told you I didn't know wireless). Go back to living
room (#2) change settings, run back...and blank on the encryption key...
run to living room (#3), write down key, run back...set...no connection.
Try again, boom...online and encrypted. Yay me. Nice to know my geek instincts
still work on networking. The rest of my night has been fairly dull, added
some stuff to my
ThinkGeek
Wishlist, watched TV and generally vegged. Tomorrow looks to be a odd
day, got some custom installs to do, and I've only installed some of the
requested software once...so lets hope my geekstreak keeps up. Wish me luck.

Well my mood improved muchly this morning. Work has been nicely keeping me
busy, not slammed but not too much time to think either. When I do have
thinking time, I end up working on a shell script to make my server migration
project even easier, but using unix shell scripts and awk to write .bat
files to generate Windows 2k3 domains...I'm fairly sure if I wasn't going to
hell before hand, now I'm going towards the front of line ;)
Otherwise, not much else going on. Same stressors as before, but I guess
I'm seeing that they are all resolvable with time. It may suck a bit,
at least money wise and pain wise, but not as bad as it could suck. Lets
hope the good mood lasts a while, I need a perky few days.

Had a rough night last night, didn't get to sleep til around 6am. Called in
brain dead to work. Woke up around 11, did some work from home, ate lunch
and have bene watching The
X Files. I'm tired, not feeling too swift and kinda down. Hopefully
I'll perk up by this weekend, and survive next week's waiting on the dental
fu. Not sure of what is planned for the weekend, hopefully some fun stuff,
and cheap stuff. I'm a poor fox. Oh well, we'll see.

Well, more dental foo. Got a call from the surgeon's office, he wanted me to
be aware that since I was doing the local + gas, that I may experience
"some discomfort or pain" during the procedure. Which set me off on a minor
wobbler. 'Some discomfort' does that mean owow pain, or you poor poor boy
kinda pain ? I also forgot to ask some questions I meant to ask before hand,
like can I bring headset and music, and what will I be able to eat when...
Guess I'll be calling back. Nothing like hearing the word 'pain' to drive
all logical thoughts out of my brain. So I'll be calling them back later to
ask some questions.
I got better, mostly with some venting to people and just thinking time. Oh
yeah, and punning. Well, when I was a kid I had to have a tooth pulled.
The nitrous made me feel icky, and I didn't want a shot (small fear of needles,
even at a young age). So I had a tooth pulled with no drugs. To this day,
people ask me how I did it, I said 'Simple, transcend dental medication.'
*duck* *grin* (and credit to
Spider Robinson for the pun.) I'm better now, but I expect on Thursday
night I'll be a tad twitchy. *crosses fingers* But, at least he called
and warned me, that was nice. Even if I'll probably twitch.

Ok, got back from the oral surgeon. Nice guy, nice staff in general. They
didn't even take a 2nd xray since I had a copy of mine with me. Long story
short, I can't get the tooth extracted til a week from Friday. I tried
to find a way to get it moved to a time where
Amythest could drive around, no
dice. This is due to wanting the full sedation thing. Left the office,
started thinking, called the oral surgeon back and asked about if I did
a local, would I be able to drive. The answer is ...yes. Plus it's quite
a bit cheaper to do. (I have insurance, but still...nothing like insurance
snafus at the wrong time to make your stress wig out). So, I've got a plan,
now to prep for the plan, and not think about it much....*twitch*

Saw Slither today, 3rd
movie of the weekend. I was in a blah mood, and I thought a sci-fi/horror
movie would help. It did, it was rather funny. Rather gory, kinda ick in
spots. But funny, as most B movies should be. Nathan Fillion (aka the
Captain from Firefly) was very amusing, had lots of good quoteable lines.
If you like movies like
Tremors
or
Night of the Creeps you'll like this one.

History Channel on TV

Well, so far my weekend has been pretty ok. Last night went to see
Stay Alive. It wasn't bad,
wasn't great, but not as bad as I expected. Funny in spots, mostly due to the
number of video gamers I've known over the years. I also picked up a few
books at the mall bookstore, a Brian
Lumley collection and a Ben Bova scifi novel. Came home after the movie,
watched a little TV, read for a bit and went to bed.
Utterly forgot the daily slavings time change, so I woke up alot later than
planned. Got dressed, got coherant, ate lunch, then started laundry. Alot
of laundry, I've been only doing enough to get though the week, so it's piled
up some. While I do laundry, I'm watching a show on the Black Death on the
History channel. Thinking of doing the movies again this afternoon/evening,
go see Slither, well assuming
the budget allows it ;) My wild life. *snicker* Tomorrow I go to the
oral surgeon for a consultation, so hopefully I'll have the tooth of doom
taken care of on Friday. I'm so not looking forward to this...well other than
not having the tooth bugging me. It doesn't hurt much, more of a pressure
feeling that comes and goes. Annoying. But in a week it will be done. Wee.
Time to check on the laundry, more wee. ;)

Happy day of foolishness, my favorite fools. I'm in a good mood, I got a
good night's sleep (minus a few hours whacky dreams), saw a funny movie last
night (Ice Age 2), laughed
myself silly, especially at the squirrel, Scrat. It was as good as the
original movie I think. Must get it on DVD when it comes out. Today,
I'm going to hang out with Amythest,
hopefully not help setup anything for movie theaters like last weekend ;)
Ciao, and may any pranks pulled on you be fun ones :)
