| DragonCon | August 30th 2001 |
|
Ok, quick note. I'm gone for the next few days at
DragonCon. Fun fun fun. If your in the Atlanta area, drop on in...I'll
be running around with a stuffed Cthulhu on my shoulder :) (Don't ask, it's
safer that way.) Ciao :)

| Good News, Road Trips, and assorted stuff | August 22nd 2001 |
Well, I've got some good news for you all. Actually I got alot of news...
lets start with most immediate.
Today I got a job with Internet America.
It's doing Level One phone support, which is a step or 3 backwards...but
as a Guru once told me,
"Itsa yob." So I'm not complaining. It's enough money to live on, and
hopefully it will help me pull my mood back up to a normal level. Something
about being unemployed killing my self esteem. So that's news bit #1.
News bit #2. I'm getting a short vacation before the new job, I'm going
to Atlanta, Georgia for DragonCon.
So before I go insane with phones, I get to have fun, being geeky, pester
writers, and in general enjoy life. I also get to meet a pack of people
from the Tamson House email list (a group of Charles DeLint fans). So
I'm damn psyched about that. And this is a big con, so I have to figure
out what to bring to get signed. Oooh, after looking at the Guests list,
I saw something fun...Jeffrey Combs, the guy who played Herbert West in
Reanimator as well as a ton of other good roles, is going to be there.
Woohoo. :) I'm going to be a happy fox.
Other than that, not much else. Going to be busy all the rest of the week
with non geek stuff. Oh well, keep me out of trouble. :) Next week
I get to learn the local transit system, since parking at IA sucks.
:) That's all for now.

| Reynard Reborn | August 17th 2001 |
|
Well, I got Reynard working last night. All I needed was the agp driver for
the motherboard. D'oh ! Which is kinda weird, since I do recall using a
agp card before that. Oh well, it's working now...and that's what matters.
So I get to continue my diablo II addiction. Plus watch the occasion non
.mpg movie. :)

| Slight Site Revamp | August 16th 2001 |
|
Well, I have no life...and I got tired of seeing the front page of
cyberfox.org, so I made the news page into the default index page. No big deal,
Unless you have the old news page bookmarked. Hmm, I guess I'll have to add
a redirect on it. Funfunfun. Oh well, not like this is a big deal.

| Firewall and Fennec | August 14th 2001 |
|
Well I rebuilt my firewall last night, swapped out the 13 gig drive in it with
a 1 gig drive. Mostly painless swap, it took a while to install things, but
not too bad. Well, I took the 13 gig drive and stuck it in fennec. So I now
have nearly 100 gigs in my mp3 server. :) And I still have some space for
drives. I really need to pull the 8.4 gigs and replace them with 80 gigs.
Maybe later this year. I need a job. Oh well...someday soon I hope.

| American Pie 2 | August 12th 2001 |
|
Went and saw American Pie 2 on Friday night. Like the first one, I laughed
til I was nearly sick. It's not a great movie, or even a really good one,
but ye gods is it funny. Not as much character development, mostly the
story was about the geek Jim with a predliction for getting into bizarre
sexual situations involving his dad walking in. (Boy is gonna need therapy
for years.) No spoilers from me, just a notice. Alyson Hannigan (our
favorite flautist, and Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) steals the
show. It's not as suprising as 'Say my name bitch !!!' from the first
movie, but she has a knack for comedic timing. I'd like to see her
in more movies...plus the fact she's a cute redhead doesn't hurt ;) Go
see it, unless stupid, adolesent humor annoys you...in which case, loosen up.
;)

| Windows is the Antichrist | August 10th 2001 |
|
Ok, like that's a shock...windoze being evil. But I've spent 2 days trying
to get a Best Data TNT2 Nvidia vid card working under windows. It took a
total of about 45 seconds to work under X and Linux. Windows ? Good
fscking luck. This would be easy IF I could find the drivers disk
for the card. No disk, no cd, and no working drivers on Best Data's site.
Nor do the drivers on Nvidia's site
work either. ARGH !!! Why does this have to be difficult ? It's a stinkin'
video card, not rocket science...*thud* Oh well, what this means is no
Diablo 2 for the fox for a while. *pout* This just ticks me off, I was
getting good playing a necromancer. With my posse of skeletons. *laugh*
OH well, looking at trading the nvidia card to a friend for an older Voodoo
card, with drivers. I'd be happy with that. Or one of the GeForce uber
cards...but since I'm poor, the trade is good.

| Multihead Kitsune | August 7th 2001 |
|
Well, life has been intresting here at Chez Cyberfox. I figured out that
my 19" monitors hadn't burned out...the vid cards had. So I did some
swapping, and part moving, and now I'm back with a trihead setup for Kitsune.
I stuck some old matrox cards in her, and installed all 3 19" KDS monitors.
Very cool, very very cool. I'll be installing the remaining Nvidia card
in Reynard (my windoze box) later tonight, as soon as I find the windows driver
disk. Then we be cool. *grin* If your curious, check out my
Screenshot
. Lots of term windows, mtvp playing futurama, bitchX and Pine. Plus
Izabella Miko for eyecandy. Plus an old friend, the background image of
Eris, Goddess of Chaos. This was one of my original backgrounds from when
I first started with linux. During one of my many upgrades it vanished.
I was sad. Well on Sunday night I did a 'What the hell' and did a search
on google for it. And suprise suprise, it was there. *grin* Happy
Discordian fox. :) You can download it here. Come on, you know you wanna. :)

| Screenshot Page | August 7th 2001 |
|
Ok, I finally updated the screenshots page. Every damn screenshot I've ever
taken is on there. ANd there is a lot of them. So check out the page.
Eventually I'm going to have it so each image or set of images has a little
desc of what the screenshot is. But that's for another day.

| Rush Hour 2 | August 5th 2001 |
|
Went and saw Rush Hour 2 on Friday, another fun Jackie Chan movie. Little
plot, lots of jokes, lots of really nice fight scenes. Plus the very pretty
Zhang Ziyi (from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon). It's not a masterwork,
but it's alot of fun. Go see it :)`

| Vulpine in Print | August 5th 2001 |
|
Well, in photo, in magazine. Yes, your dear friend Vulpine has made it into
a nationally published magazine. Well, at least a photo of me did. The
magazine Femme Fatales did a big article on American Nightmare,
and one
of the movie shots they used had me in the background. :) Life is good.
You can pick this up at most bookstores, I'm on page 24. Special thanks
to Mr Producer, Jerry, for letting me know about this. :) One of these days I'll get the pic scanned in, so
you all can see it.

| Bad Ping Day | August 4th 2001 |
http://www.cyberfox.org/hellping.jpg
And you think you've had a bad internet day. Argh. Lucky this isn't
my server. But I'm the one who had to call the server admin. Hmm, his
ISP is blaiming Code Red, funny how no one else seems to be really affected.
Oh well. Tis the fun of running servers. And of course, Big Brother is reporting it as down...lucky for me my pager
notification script is off line. :) Oh well.
Additional: Looks like a border router at Qwest went karfluki. It
got fixed about a minute after posting about it. Gotta love the 'net.

| Eterm Fun | August 2nd 2001 |
|
Well, I started playing with ETerm today. I
used to use this all the time, but switched to aterm to reduce memory load.
Well, it dawned on me I have half a gig of memory in this box. So it didn't
matter what I used as a term. Plus I can make Eterm nice and pretty. So,
we'll see how long this lasts. :)

| Code Red | August 2nd 2001 |
|
Well, the internet survived yet another attack from stupid virii. If you
run IIS, gods I hope you fixed things after the first attempt. I know better,
since I got some 30 odd hits via infected machines. I run
Apache. No fuss, no muss, all fun. :)
And few viruses. So, dear MCSE's and NT admins, patch your damn servers,
or better yet, switch to something better ;)
