Elvira's Haunted Hills

Hey there, catching up on posts. Last saturday went to the
InWood Theater for a midnight showing of...
Elvira's Haunted Hills.
Now this was a damn funny movie. It's a friendly parody of the old
Hammer Studios/Edgar Allen Poe movies from the 60's and 70's...the ones
I grew up on. It gets alot of its plot and parody from
Fall of the House of Usher
and THe Pit and the Pendulum
. So I had quite a few laughs in this one. Also, the scenery and
sets are actually quite good. Makes me want a castle in the Carpathian
mountains myself. Also staring along side her Vampiness, is
Richard O'Brien
aka RiffRaff from the Rocky Horror Picture show. All in all, it's a hoot
and a half. If you have a chance, see it on the big screen. And if not,
buy it when it comes out on DVD. :) It's so worth it. :)

Hey all. I'm back. Not that I was really gone. I went ahead and rebuild
my Linux box before I moved down to austin, so I'd have access to
broadband to update everything. So after a lot of hardware headaches...
(must remember rule one, never switch motherboards...some reason computers
get pissy.) I got SuSE 8.0 installed. I've
been having fun getting things setup and installed. I'll make a longer
post when I get everything setup and running. :)

Two frogs are walking down the street, looking for some action. One stops
and says, "Lets go in there." "Why?" asks the other one. "It's got
plenty of action and babes." "How can you tell?" "The sign of course..."

First of all, sorry about all the links on the last news post...I went
a little crazy. Second of all, my evil plans for world domination move
forward at an acceptable rate...err, my plans to move to Austin move
forward. Gave my 2 weeks notice at
IA today. No commentary yet, other than the HR people schedualling an
exit interview. I always so love those. Well other than the utter urge
to say everything I really think and feel. ;) Have alot more crap
to get done, but right now I'm dragging so badly from too little sleep
last night to get crap done. Gotta sort books and movies and stuff.
Plus, dear gods...I have to move my network. ARGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*thud* Ok, I'm better. But yeah, I have to move the network,
Cabal23 is moving. So this time, I'm going to take the time to make
things right. Do what I want/need things to do, and pick up some new
skills. Like, for instance, Rhiannon's
computer runs windows. My laptop runs windows, eventually I'll have a
game box running windows. All these windoze boxen will want file
server access. And printer access. And all other kinds of neat things.
So, use Samba to act as a Primary
Domain Controller. It's not hard (or so I'm told) and be a useful
skill in my trickbag. Also, I want to make Tempest (my mp3 server) into
a stereo. So instead of playing the mp3's across the network, play
them locally on the server and have the controls accessable from the
network. Plus some intranet webhosting stuff, like a calendar and
info, and whatever else we find we need. Eventually, I have this
picture of running everything in the house via the computer...but I
think common sense will win out before that.
Not much else new, looking forward to the move. Not looking forward to
packing. Not looking forward to job hunting. Really hoping to avoid
tech support this time. Or at least, level one dialup support. Argh,
my brain still hurts thinking about some of the things I have to fix
on a daily basis. I think I rather have my head smeared in jam and
left for ants. :( But maybe I can avoid being a phone jock again.
*hopeful look* Or at least do something that's less painful. Wow, I'm
babbling... :) Babble more later.

Austin Movie Fest
|
Mon Aug 12 15:32:30 CDT 2002
|
Well, another weekend, another weekend spent in Austin :) Me and
Rhiannon went to see a few movies,
XXX and
Signs. Both were good,
if very different.
First XXX. It's an
action flick (duh). It's got a soso plot, but it's fun and hyper and
has some amazing stunts. Plus it has
Asia Argento, aka
the daughter of Dario
Argento the king of Euro-Horror. She's yummy. Though Rhiannon
thought Mr Diesel was
yummier. Oh well. I give it two thumbs up, unless you just can't stand
a completely unbelievable secret agent who is just amusing to watch.
On to Signs. Another
of M. Night Shyamalan's
weird ass movies. I liked it, other than the pace was a touch
slow. Aliens after farmers in Pennsylvania. Fairly good acting, and even
with the slow pacing it kept my intrest. The ending on the otherhand...
well lets just say it goes from 0-60 in about 4.8 seconds. Again, I'll
recommend it...especially if you liked
Unbreakable.

Downtime

Feh, I hate the internet some days. First, all the DNS flern is fixed
for the moment with my domains. I no longer have any domains with
NetSol. Everything has been moved to either
Dotster or Superhero Networks
as registrar. Then, the ISP That
Shall Not Be Named decided to cancel my webhosting. No more non-profits
for free. So unless I pay alot more than I can afford, I loose this space.
So I had a fun scramble to find space. Got it arranged, not that I had
to scramble too much...I have time. But still, after the DNS hell I went
though, having to do it again is damn annoying. So, thanks to
WesM for the space. Hopefully, after
I move and get job foo squared away, I'll be able to afford some form
of colocation or dedicated server. I can dream at least. So, migration
fun again. :(

Wandering Vulpine Blues
|
Mon Aug 5 14:20:57 CDT 2002

Hello boys and girls. I just wanted to make a rather large announcement.
I'm going to be moving to Austin at the end of this month. I've been
considering moving out of D/FW for a long time now, and I've finally
decided to go ahead and move back to that little corner of Weirdness called
Austin. Yes, the pretty redhead down south has helped this decision, along
with a few other friends who have been harrassing me for years to move.
But I've always loved Austin, and it's a fun place to live, and I need
a change...
So as of the end of the month (week of the 28th), the Ol' Foxgeek (tm) will
be heading out. Once I get settled down there, I'll make sure everyone has
my info. I'll still be able to check email, if a bit slowly. (ick, dialup)
so i'll be in touch. :) I'll miss you all, but I won't be far. :)
Watch out Austin, here I come :)
Vulpine, letting his Gypsy blood wander.

ARGH !!!!
|
Fri Aug 2 11:45:49 CDT 2002
|
Well, I'm still having major DNS flernage. I hate
NetSol/InterNic/whatever
the hell it's called...they make things so difficult. So some of my
domains work, some don't. Some work for some people, some don't. ARGH !
Plus to add to the frustration, got written up at work yesterday for being
sick...6 weeks ago. Boneheads. Plus a team lead 'talked' to me about
being overheard by another tech...and I should keep my voice down. Well,
if we had phones that worked right and customers who weren't deaf I wouln't
have to project my voice. ARGH !!!!!
ARGH !!!!!
