Well, I've decided what I'm doing next with my life. And I've decided to go back to Dallas/Fort Worth. I've just got better chances at a job up there, plus more people I know, plus my mom. My mom is more than slighty important to me. So I'm going to get my stuff all packed up, grab the things I need to survive, grabs the cats and ferrets and head to DFW. I'm going to miss Austin, it's a nice town. But, I think it's time to head back where I know.
Very special thanks to Mare
, Hunter and Laurel, aka my coven. You guys are the best thing to happen to me in Austin, and if you think you won't see me because I'm in Dallas you have another thing coming. I love you guys...

Ok, a short post to explain the earlier short post.
Me and Rhiannon broke up Monday night. Long story short, neither of us have been happy for a while. So, we ended things. I'm not going into the gory details, one they're more dull than gory, and two I just don't want to.
i
And to answer the most common questions of those who knew what happened, no I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm not moved out yet, don't know when I will be. No, there really isn't much you can do, save understand if I'm a little short or strange (ok, a little more than normal). I'm going to be ok, I always am. Like the rats of New York, I can survive damn near anything.

There's a man trying to cross the street. As he steps off the curb a
car comes screaming around the corner and heads straight for him. The
man walks faster, trying to hurry across the street, but the car
changes lanes and is still coming at him.
So the guy turns around to go back, but the car changes lanes again
and is still coming at him.
By now, the car is so close and the man so scared that he just
freezes and stops in the middle of the road.
The car gets real close, then swerves at the last possible moment and
screeches to a halt right next him.
The driver rolls down the window.
The driver is a squirrel.
The squirrel says to the man says, "See, it's not as easy as it
looks, is it?"

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything here, most of my day to
day babbling has been done on LiveJournal. This doesn't mean I'm going to stop updating this, just
that alot of the crap I've been talking about fits that better.
I've been sick as a dog for a week now, I helped a friend move last
weekend...and I inhaled a lungful of dust. Which set my allergies into
overdrive. Bleah. Slowly I'm recovering from that, but it has not been
fun to say the least.
On the Apple Front:
When last I babbled, I had survived my tech interview. Friday, while I was up in Dallas, I got a call from the company doing the background check. Seems they couldn't contact a company I worked for back in 2000-2001. Can I get them a contact # or proof of employment (paystub or w2). When I got home on Monday, I hunted down their phone numbers, as well the numbers of the company I was consulting at (this was a consulting firm I was working for). Well I get another email saying they needed still more, could I send a paystub or a W-2. Well bugger. I'm bad about keeping paperwork, I know I know...that's a dumb thing to be bad about, but it's a fact of my life. So I spend yesterday and today tearing apart the house...and I finally find it. I also find about 30 lbs of dust for my lungs *wheeze* But I got the W2 info faxed to the background company, and things should move along. I'm actually fairly positive now...since they spent the money for the background check, I must have done well in the interview.
So cross your fingers for me :)
I'm slowly adapting to the new keyboard. All the function keys work, and
have nifty little tricks mapped to them. The problem is I'm used to having
my hands in a certain position for typing on an ergonomic. On a flat
keyboard it doesn't quite map the same, so I have tons of typos. But
I'm getting better. For feel, the keyboard is rather nice. Not mushy
at all, which was a worry of mine. Now to get black monitors and a black
cdrw, and Shub-Internet will have
an all black setup ;)
Had to do a complete reinstall of Rhiannon's
computer. ARGH!!!!! It still has no NIC, since it won't accept the drivers.
So off to get a new NIC one of these days...probably next week when she
gets paid. Hell, that means I need to install a floppy drive on the
Wintendo. *thud* I hate floppy drives. Hmm, hope I have one. Or I hope
that NIC's come with drivers on cdrom. That would be easier...but when has
my life been easy. *sigh* I'm also trying to decide what I want to do in
the eventual future with Shub-Internet.
Dual Pentium III, AthlonXP, Pentium IV. She's a workstation, so the dual
CPU would be nice. But AthlonXP is cheaper for similar power, just not as
robust with the single CPU. I dunno, I guess it depends on what I can
find after I have a job. We'll see...I also want to build a gaming
box, and get a new laptop as well...Greedy ? Me ? Nah....

Well, I got my new keyboard in today, thanks to the magic of
Ebay I now have a Logitech Elite keyboard for about half the price. Happy
fox. The downside to a new keyboard, I have to remap a number of keys.
If this was windows, I'd just install the software...but I'm a Linux freak,
so I have to do it the old fashioned way. Took about an hour, but I got
all the extra keys mapped, save the webcam and shopping...and that's
because of a typo. But since I don't feel like restarting X again,
it will wait a while. It's kinda cool, though the keyboard feels kinda
small compaired to my Microsoft Ergonomic keyboards. I'll get used to it
though. All in all I'm pretty happy with it.

Well, thanks to Robin, I have a
new email...#108. Funny, I wasn't planning on i
keeping up with this, but when I got the new address...the old instincts popped
up. So back to collecting.
As for modem...Shub-Internet is
acting up majorly, if I run the DVD the modem connection is flaky. Stop
the DVD, and it's fine...back to 40k plus. *shakes head* No clue why
this is, only difference in things is the long ass phone cord. Can't
think of anything that the DVD would affect. *shrug* Well, we'll see
if moving the modem to Tru-Namedra will help things. Who knows.

Well, been a geeky few days here at Chez Cabal23. I had a phone interview
with Apple on Thursday, it went fairly
well. I have an inperson interview on Tuesday. Wish me luck. Yesterday
was Lammas, so I spent it with my coven. Had a good time, came home and
crashed out early. Slept til about 2:30 am, then woke up wide awake. So
I geeked a bit, setup Pine
4.56. Rearranged the mail folders and started using a new feature, allowing
me to setup multiple viewable directories. So all the email that I have
stored from various people, plus all the various months of sent emails
are all archived in one folder seperate from all the others. So my
archive is well, archiving ;)
In other geek news, we finally got a second phone line hooked up, and a
LONG phone cord stretching from one side of the house to Shub-Internet's modem. So, no more fights about phone vs
internet usage. Woohoo. Later today or tomorrow or whenever, I plan
on trying to switch things around so the DNS and Web server also acts as a
gateway, take some of the load off of Shub-Internet. But mostly cause I can ;)
Not much else going on, probably should do something silly...like take a
screenshot...which I just did. :)
Nothing too fancy, just my new
modified background, reading alt.fan.rawilson in pine and chatting online
via Gaim and BitcHX. A normal day for me :)
