*yawn* Is it the weekend yet ? Wed Aug 31 21:34:40 CDT 2005
Mood: sleepy Music of the Day: Good Eats on TV
Well, it's almost the weekend for me. 1 more day, then 4 days off. So what do I end up doing tonight...work. I had some projects that were either waiting on a coworker, or waiting on a schedualed task. So, I came home and waited...and around 9 I got to working. Everything went like a dream, send off a few emails and wrap 'em up. Now let's see what happens tomorrow.

Speaking of good things, I got my copy of House of Cthulhu in the mail. UPS dropped by to deliver Tales out of Dunwich, but I'd just gone back to work from lunch, so I'll have to get it tomorrow from the apartment office. *happy dance* Still waiting on Chaosium to ship me my copy of the Tsathoggua Cycle, but with the GenCon gaming con last week, they're running rather behind. So I'm working on that whole patience thing. *twitch* But at least I've got books to last me the weekend. Or the next two days ;)

Between work and work-from-home, I did a little grocery shopping, made dinner, played UT 2004 for a bit. Amythest got to see Serenity tonight, got a call a little while ago raving about how good it was. Can't wait. And yes, I'm slightly jealous...but again...working on that patience thing ;) Maybe the gods of karma will smile on me for being patient. Let us hope.

Weekend Update + Tue Aug 30 15:42:31 CDT 2005
Mood: tired Music of the Day: Yngwie Malmsteen and Ronnie Dio - Dream On
Not much to report on the weekend. Went and picked up Unreal Tournament 2004 and started playing on the server Techie and Nymaz play on. It's fun, though it's taking me a while to get my first person shooter skills back up to par.

I didn't work on E17 much at all this weekend, need to bone up on configuration docs and other flernage...then probably just force myself to use it til I'm familiar. Also need to really clean out the rats nest o cables that the computers are hooked up to. I do have a 4 day weekend coming up, probably spend one day doing chores.

Saturday I went with Techie to play cards with some friends at Wes's place. Phase 10 aka the game that breaks up marriages and kills friendships. Though it wasn't too bad all in all, just some mild smack floating around.

Not much else...hopefully will have more to report after the 4 days weekend of joy. Planning on reading, watching movies, and sleeping...alot of sleeping. Yay sleep. Yay reading, if all goes well I should have 3 new books of Mythos stories to read for the weekend. My often commented Tsathoggua Cycle, plus two new collections I ordered from Amazon.com. One is by Brian Lumley, called The House of Cthulhu. Looks fun. The other is Tales out of Dunwich. Another collection by Robert M. Price, should be fun. So plenty of tentacled goodness for my reading. This should keep me from going postal for a few months. Lets hope.

Mood: geeky Music of the Day: Animal Planet on TV
Well, I got geeky today/this evening, and got Enlightenment 0.17 install on Shub-Internet. Took a little hacking to get all the libs working, but it's running now. Well, it was running. The downside is I have NO idea how to configure it, and my geeky rush faded fast. So I went back to E 0.16 while I do more research on configuration. But, it's still nice to have something go right on the first try. Hurrah for E 17.

It's a work of art IMHO.
It's a pirate's life for me. I want to send something like this someday...

Hurrah Fri Aug 19 20:57:34 CDT 2005
Mood: relieved Music of the Day: Stargate Atlantis
Well, for those who noticed I was a tad on edge today, I had a big problemchild issue going on that I had to wait til after my normal shift ended to do. It involved MSSQL, which is one of my least favorite things in ITland, and having to just think all day about it without getting to work on it, or fix it had me very on edge. Well, 6pm rolled around, I started the migration. It took about 1 1/2 hours all in all, and seemed to go very smoothly. Call customer, tell details, clean up my stuff and head for home. Veg out, and after a while I get an email from from the customer, saying all went perfectly. *happy dance* Hurrah for things going good and as planed...and hurrah for my l33t migration skills not failing me. Now, I intend to be a veggie for the rest of the weekend. Hurrah for me.

Mood: tired Music of the Day: Red vs Blue on TV
My gods, I'm tired. But I can't get my brain to shut up long enough to sack out. Head aching isn't helping either. Reading isn't helping, and in general I just want to sleep in tomorrow. *whine* On the plus side, tomorrow is Friday. So I will catch up on sleep over the weekend. Now to just survive the workday.

4 hours of OT at work sucks.

But, 4 hours of OT pay is pretty nifty.

But I wish it had been another day...

Tuesday Funness Tue Aug 16 22:09:28 CDT 2005
Mood: Good Music of the Day: Red vs Blue on TV
Well, hurrah for Tuesdays. Work was pretty busy, got a problem issue taken care of by giving myself a crash (pardon the pun) course in Cold Fusion and Access databases. Once work got done, I headed to Walmart and picked up some stuff for the house, and the Sin City DVD. Yum. Jessica Alba poledancing. Double yum. It works well as a DVD, wish I had seen it once more on the big screen when it was playing. Oh well, it will probably show up for a midnight showing in the near future. Came home, did laundry, ate pizza and watched said movie. Now I'm watching Red vs Blue and listening to the ferrets play some variation of ferret tag. Bed soon. :) But hurrah for a day that started off seeming rather ick, and instead it got better and better.

Weekend update Sun Aug 14 17:10:12 CDT 2005
Mood: sunday blah Music of the Day: Anacondas: the Hunt for the Blood Orchid
Well, Sunday rolls around and it comes my usual report on my weekend whackyness. Not alot of whackyness this weekend. Friday day involved me going home rather early, I had a headache from hell, it was keeping me from thinking straight or concentrating on anything other than 'ow ow ow, pain pain pain' So I went home, napped kinda, got up and went over to The Grim Squeaker's to celebrate his birthday and watch Stargate. I didn't last long, ended up heading back home and medicating myself to the gills.

Saturday I woke up fairly early, ran some errands for my mom, then went over to Amythest's and killed time before we were suppost to meet up with Techie and a friend of his to see The Skeleton Key. Fun, very spooky movie. Not much in the way of leap out and scare you or gore, but lots of atmosphere and spookyness. Very very good. From there we headed back to Techie 's place and watched bad movies. First, Cursed, aka Werewolf Hills, 90210. Funny, not alot of plot, but amusing. After that was D.E.B.S., a parody of spy movies. Kinda cute, very cheesy, not the worst thing I've seen, but not the best. Funny though. After the movies, I dropped Amythest off at her place, came home and vegged out.

Sunday has been a kinda bleah day...nothing bad, but nothing to write home about either. Cleaned the kitchen and living room a bit, watched TV and movies, played online a bit. (Halo, it's kinda fun.) Nothing great. I've had a low grade funk feeling going on, Sunday blahs suck. Right now I'm watching Anacondas and finishing up dinner. Hopefully eating will help my mood. *crosses fingers*

Having a fan with a remote control is kinda cool...fun to scare the coworkers with. Also, listening to 4 cellists playing covers of Metallica and other metal tunes and seeing people walk by, pause, listen, look confused and walk on is fun. :)

Pleasant Surprise Wed Aug 10 22:08:34 CDT 2005
Mood: good Music of the Day: Mythbusters on TV
Well, after a rather wonky week, some positive stuff. I came home from a mostly good day at work, to a letter from the Doc-in-a-box I went to a few weeks ago. In it is a check, it seems I was overcharged. Woot! $58 I didn't expect. Nice to get a letter that isn't a bill.

After my unexpected boon, I went to dinner with Amythest and Nymaz. After dinner, me and Amythest so she could pick up stuff, I planned on just getting a kitchen container to hold the spatulas and whatnot and St John's Wort. I got that, plus a raid on the bargain aisle. I picked up a 10 piece knife set for $5, and a bunch of plastic glasses (5 total) for 3 bucks. Hurrah for me. Now I'm home, clean and watching Mythbusters. Life is good. Now lets hope the next two days of work are good as well.

Babbly post Wed Aug 10 11:38:34 CDT 2005
Mood: babbly Music of the Day: Apocalyptica - Path
I'm feeling...odd. Not down or depressed, I'm actually in a fairly good mood all in all. I think it's lack of sleep and weirdness at work combining to make for a goofy, groggy feeling fox. Got the car jumped last night, btw. So that's good, no walkies to work. Wireless router is going on, but Nyarlaptop has some network foo...when it boots it doesn't find the dhcp server on the router (I need to name the router one of these days) off the bat. So I have to manually renew and release the dhcp lease. Not a big deal, but it bugs me just enough to want to tear into Windows 98 networking and make it work right ;) But not anytime soon ;) Speaking of computer foo, Sunday I installed that video card I got from a sales weasel into Shub-Internet. So instead of 8 megs of video memory, I have 64 megs. the Lament screensaver for xscreensaver works really nicely now. I also added 2 more 40 gig IDE drives from spare parts into ATAthoth, after attempting to use them and the other 40's in Atathoth as a RAID 0 in Shub. But the RAID chipset on the motherboard for Shub is well...crappy. Max of 2 drives in an array ? Why bother. So, drives got slotted into Atathoth, and now I have 215 gigs of storage in him. Eventually though I'm going to have that much and more in Shub, and then Atathoth will be rebuilt as a backup server. Hurrah for redundancy ;) Both upgrades went fairly painlessly, but I didn't get the front USB panel setup on Shub, the wiring didn't make any sense and I decided to stop while I was ahead.

(note to self, edit this page to put paragraph breaks where I start new mental threads...or not.)

Not alot else. Been reading a ton of Conan novels lately. They're simple fun reads, and what can I say...the idea of dealing with my problems at work by smiting the problem with a sword or an axe appeals to me. ;) After the Conan run (got 3 books left) I'll probably do something different, something Scifi. Later this year I'm going to do a similar run on HP Lovecraft, read though all the stories I have of his, since it's been years for me to read some of them (others, my faves, I read every few months it seems). Probably in October, around my spawning day.

Future plans...not alot. Get though this work week, sleep in alot over the weekend. No real geeking plans, might work on Gallery foo one night. Thinking of going to see The Skeleton Keyi over the weekend. Hurrah for voodoo movies. Maybe it won't suck :) Hmm...been babbling for a while, guess I'll post this. Weeeeeeee.

New Router Sun Aug 7 00:33:39 CDT 2005
Mood: tired Music of the Day: Red vs Blue on DVD
I got a new router today at Fry's. They had a special on a Netgear 802.11G routers for about $30. Woo for wireless routers. So I set it up, and configure it. It's a little unintuitive, but I got it working. Also got wireless setup with WEP encryption. Working right now on configuring the port forwarding for the firewall. Wireless is working well (on Nyarlaptop right now from my bedroom, and the signal is going though the kitchen to the router. I like it and best of all, no huge ass cable going from bedroom to the living room anymore. I need to upgrade the card in Nyarl from 802.11b to 802.11g one of these days.

Saw alot of toys I wanted in Fry's. Terabyte network storage units, cheap AMD Semperon motherboards/CPU combos, 19" monitors. Too bad I'm poor. ;) After Fry's I went to see the The Longest Yard with Amythest. Funny, worth the $1 admission fee. ;) Also went over and hung out at Techie's place to play Phase10. A game that I think I will avoid from now on, it pisses off everyone playing it. From there I came home, played with ferrets, watched Red vs Blue and wrote this. Tomorrow will be dull I hope. Then, back to the salt mines for another week.

Mood: mostly ok Music of the Day: Mythbusters on TV
Well, it's been a busy Friday. Work was, well...work. Stuff going on, but won't go into details. Nothing too bad, just I see busy days next week. Found out the server that hosts Cyberfox.org and Cabal23.net is down. Oops, the down side to home hosting. ;) Hopefully it will be back up tonight. (so I can post this). Got off work, went to Don Pablos (TexMex chain in DFW) to get dinner for me and Amythest. Took forever to get food (including my nachos being done twice due to error). Headed over to Amythest's to watch Stargates with her, Techie and The Grim Squeaker. Enjoyed the shows, then we introduced Techie (Squeaker left early) to a new SciFi show called MasterBlasters. Rocket nuts launching stuff. In this case, Cooper Minis with rocket engines...flippin' cool. Came home, turned on Mythbusters and waiting to hear the report on the server. No real plans for the weekend, going to do some major destressing and self pampering I think. Not sure what, but hopefully some of it will be fun. I need some fun.

Well, I threw together a quick hack of my journal script Journalism. I set it up to display what the current music is under Xmms, and ask you if you want to use that, or input something else...like what I'm listening to at work, or what's on TV. Nothing big, but I like it. Hurrah for shell scripting goodness.

Nah, I don't work in that kind of place. Instead I work in a rather warm office. So today, I said I've had it, and went out and got a fan from the local Wallyworld. $20 well spent. Took about 10 to put together, and in time honored family tradition, I got it completely together when I noticed I had a piece extra. Just a cover for the base, though it looked like a cowling for the motor. Oh well. My base will just be nekkid. Hurrah for breezes.

Say Hello to My Aquatic Friend Tue Aug 2 21:27:29 CDT 2005
Mood: amused Music of the Day: Dead Can Dance - Arabian Gothic
My friend Amythest went to New Orleans last week, and she came back with a special gift for me. I want you to say hello to my new friend, Remy.

Remy the River Otter

Ain't he cute. Since he's a Creole otter, he's got a French name. I've always liked otters, they're like ferrets but more damp. And this otter has tons of character. *grin* Though he keeps looking at Skippy oddly. Oh well, they'll sort it out. Sorry about the picture quality, still learning how to take decent pics with the cell camera...need a real camera someday. Special thanks to Amythest for the otter, and ideas for names, and SugarFae for the original idea that a New Orleans otter needed a French name.
