Mood: FerretGeeky Music of the Day: Dream Theater - Finally Free
Well, I got bored, so I setup http://ferrets.cabal23.net. Yep, the weasels get their own website. Nothing major, just moving the pages to a specific host name. I'm going to work on setting up specific pages for Shadow and Winter, as well as for Merret and Amergin (my ferrets who have passed on.) Not sure what else I'll do with it. I'm also going to do a site for Trinity and Diamond, one of these days.

Busy Weekend Foo Tue Jan 27 00:23:16 CST 2004
Mood: Good Music of the Day: Lacuna Coil - Daylight Dancer
Well, I had a very busy weekend...not bad, just did alot. Friday I went with Amythest and Nymaz to the Dallas Museum of Art. They were doing a "Late night at the museum" show. I actually enjoyed myself, more than I expected. Heard the band Brave Combo live for the first time, that was alot of fun. The art...well, I'm a Philistine when it comes to art...I don't get most of it. "Modern" art generally makes little sense to me. I like portrates, landscapes, still lifes, scultures where you can figure out what the hades is suppost to be in front of you. One piece was a piano, with cement in it, and a wall in front of the keyboard...and potatoes with weird carved shapes in it. Yes, ptoatoes. Real potatoes, treated to not rot, but potatoes none the less. Needless to say I was less than impressed and had to bite my tongue several times. I just don't get art. Came home from the museum, did laundry til 2am, went to bed.

Got up the next day, ran errands, got stuff to clean and hook up my VCR and DVD player. Sadness, my DVD player appears to be really dead, but at least the VCR is running well now. Watched alot of Red Dwarf, went and hung out with the Grim Squeaker for a bit, worked on my character for his new game, Exhaulted (I think that's how it's spelled at least.) White Wolf style game, with fantasy characters that remind me of Wire-fu movies (think Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or Iron Monkey.) In fact, mine is based on the Iron Monkey character, but a tad more bloodthirsty. The game looks very cool.

Sunday I went to gaming, we did some character tinkering and quick combats to get familiar with the game, I had alot of fun...my character is a poinging weasel (not really) of doom. Definitely created a combat monster here, but I'm hoping to balance that out with good roleplay. From there I went to a New Moon ritual, which was nice. Always good to hang out with fellow heathens. From there I went home, and for some reason I felt REALLY down. Nothing I could pin it down to, so I buried myself in a couple of good books and chocolate, and by 2-3am I was fine. On the plus side, I knew it wasn't anything...just my brain going off kilter, it's easier to fight when I know it's nothing. Bump up my blood sugar, do something fun (in this case read alot of history) and be patient. Monday morning I slept in, then got up, ran some errands, sold some books at Half Price, got some more books (history again) and came home. Made tacos for dinner, which were ok...not great but not bad. Then I played with Winter and Shadow (my ferrets) for a while, while unpacking and cleaning my bedroom. Ferrets are good for your mood. Then I took out the trash and came to work. Weeee. Ok, so my weekend wasn't as busy as it felt, it still was good. So there ;)

Tru-Namedra is back Thu Jan 22 22:46:26 CST 2004
Mood: Good Music of the Day: None
Well I finished rearranging my desk area in my apartment, and I went ahead and set up Tru-Namedra on the network. This is my little experiment in DNS service. It's been in storage for the last 4+ months, so after I got the deskspace setup, I went in, plugged in the box and away we went. Took a while to remember what IP I assigned it, but once I did I went in, updated the DNS files and away we go. So now the whole Yaddith (home) network is using a local machine as the DNS server. I feel geeky again :) Now, to upgrade to BIND9 and learn that, since we're using it on the colo box now. But that will be another day.

Color Me Impressed Tue Jan 20 19:48:28 CST 2004
Mood: Productive Music of the Day: Barbarians on the History channel
Well color me impressed as hell. I've been working on unpacking, and as of now I have unpacked nearly all my books and setup my bookshelves. This is a major achievement for those who don't know me...I have 4 six foot tall book shelves crammed with books, and quite a few more besides that. So unpacking the books is a big deal. I still have boxes and boxes to unpack, and bags of clothes to wash and put up. But I'll get that done soon, along with replace things damaged in the move (two of the bookshelves are very damaged, and need to be replaced). But soon all will be done and good :)

Busy Weekend Mon Jan 19 23:48:49 CST 2004
Mood: Tired Music of the Day: Lacuna Coil - This is My Dream
Well, it was a rather busy weekend. Friday, like most fridays for me, involved alot of sleep and watching of weird TV. Saturday I got up early, cleaned house and puttered around til around Noon. Then Amythest came by, we went to Jason's Deli for lunch, then came back and watched Tru Calling episodes then went to see Peter Pan. I really liked this version of the story, which seemed to be pretty close to the book. Lots of fun, lots of laughs and general warm fuzzies. Go see with someone you don't mind being emotional around. :) From there, we met up with with a few other friends for dinner, then everyone came back to my place to watch some PBS special on Vikings (I love my friends, we're such geeks) Then they headed out to see a midnight showing of Ghostbusters. I wanted to go...but I had to get some sleep for the next day.

The next day dawns with a call from the Uhaul office, saying my truck was delayed til 10:30. So I got up, got ready, and headed down to Uhaul. Got a 14' truck, signed over my soul, and drove on down to Austin. Long drive, very dull. Got my crap, took about 3 hours total to load. Headed back up, got home around 9pm or so. Started unloaded, got some help from the lovely Amythest and Nymaz (who isn't as lovely, but a damn good friend anyway) who helped me move in most of my stuff before they had to run. Unloaded the last of it, then spend 15 min trying to get the ramp back in the truck. The bracket it sits in didn't have the bolt that keeps it in place, and it kept jamming. Got some help from one of my neighbors, thank Discordia for neighbors with sledgehammers ;) Parked the truck and headed in. To the Hell of Boxes everywhere. *sigh* I hate moving. Chatted online for a bit, read LiveJournal, ate a little dinner and crashed. By this point I was in LOTS of pain, sore muscles and joints. But I slept fairly well.

Woke up today, and ye blinkin' gods, I was sore. Drove the Uhaul back to the depot, paided out ALOT of money, got my car back and headed over to see... guess who ? Yep, Amythest. (Hey, only fair, she's one of my bestest buddies and I did owe her for helping me with the move). We went out to get Chinese food for lunch, then a stop by Half Price Books, where I was good and didn't spend much. Then we headed back to her place, and I headed home... where I went back to sleep for a while. Woke up after about 5 hours of sleep, organized a little, unpacked a bit (6 boxes), setup my TV and ate dinner. Then...off to work. Weeeeee.

So, it was a rather busy weekend. Right now I'm tired as all hell, and still hurting alot. But that will pass, I can walk now without wanting to cry. ;) Looking forward to getting all my books on shelves, and all my stuff organized. Hopefully I won't take 6 months to do that ;) Wish me luck.

Mood: tired Music of the Day: Lacuna Coil - Hyperfast
Well, I'm feeling a touch more human than the last few days. Didn't sleep very well today, dreamed of work (bleah) then dreamed I was shopping with my parents, for Plush Cthulhus and the brand new Cthulhu Cyberpunk series of books. *twitch* Ok, maybe I spend too much time reading HPL ? Nah...

Mood: Sick Music of the Day: Lacuna Coil - Heaven's a Lie
Subject says it all...I've got a low-grade fever and a general bleah feeling in my bod. Enough to consider calling in, but I ended up not. So here I am at work, hoping I don't get sicker. :(

Mood: geeky Music of the Day: Queensryche - I Dream in Infrared
I decided to keep a log of the geeky things I do this year, just to see how much I actually geek in a year (or for however long I remember to do this.) So far I've got three things on it, 1 decent, 1 soso, and 1 headslap ;)

1-04-04: Figured out why SSI's were busted.
1-05-04: Figured out sending email to the new server (auth under Pine)
1-06-04: Setup VNC + SSH tunnling for Shub.

Nothing very complex, but I'm still happy. It's a start. :) Expect to see a page on Cyberfox.org to document this.

VNC via SSH tunnel Wed Jan 7 00:06:16 CST 2004
Mood: geeky Music of the Day: Lacuna Coil - When a Dead Man Walks
Well, I finally got VNC running under an ssh tunnel from work to home. What this means is I can view Shub's desktop from my windows box, via an encrypted connection. Geeky, and kinda useful...but not very since I'm used to connecting via ssh and terminals. But useful to pull up website from remote. Probably will use it more locally via my laptop to play apps on Shub without getting up from whereever I am. VNC = lazy people ;) But I set it up mostly without help, just some help with setting up the SSH tunnel. Woo me :)

Server Swap & Weekend Foo Mon Jan 5 20:12:26 CST 2004
Mood: OK Music of the Day: None
Well, it was an intresting weekend. The main Cabal23.net server was upgraded. I didn't get dragged into it, the other admins took care of it. Not alot broke, besides any site using SSI's (including this one). We fixed that shortly though. Gotta watch them Apache configs ;) So if you wondered why this site didn't show anything for a while, that's why.

Saturday was movie day. First was Return of the King. I've been wanting to see this since day one, but I haven't really had a chance to see it til now. I really enjoyed it, for a 3 1/2 hour movie it went by way too fast. I didn't want it to end. I've always been a Tolkien fan, and after seeing all 3 movies, I'm impressed with how Peter Jackson did things. It's a must see. Well, unless you hate hobbits ;)

After that, we hung out for a while, then went to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail at a midnight movie showing. I've never seen this in the theater before, and it was alot of fun. We even had people show up with coconuts... (I should have brought my dead parrot) It was a fun watch.

So it was a fun weekend. But, there was a down side. I haven't been sleeping well. That is the problem with graveyard, it messes with your sleep schedual. Especially when you have weekends off, it's hard to adapt back and forth. Oh well, it beats working 9-5 :)

Update on Shub-Internet Fri Jan 2 02:22:59 CST 2004
Mood: bored Music of the Day: Motley Crue - Looks that Kill
Well, I went and updated Shub-Internet 's website tonight. Just an update on hardware, specifically the tri-head setup. That is all :) Still waiting on Ebay auctions to come though for a much more involved upgrade.
