Mood: Awake Music of the Day: Queensr˙che - Empire
Well, it's been a busy morning, full of little trivia bits. Started with getting woken up by Rhiannon at tooearly AM. The internet was broken. Since she's not a geek, this can mean a number of things, so I stagger to my computer, check things. We're connected, but not routing. Ok. Drop and reconnect, same thing. Can't get past the modem bank at io.com. Ok...say it's a routing issue, and crawl back into bed. A few hours later it's still going on, I call support and find out that yes, it is a routing issue, they moved backbone providers last night. And something broke this morning. Oh well. Get dressed, get lunch, come home, try it again...connects fine. Ahh, the miracle of the net...But if I didn't have the net, I'd be a much more bored fox ;)

Graphical Boredom:
Because I assumed I'd have no internet, I started working on changing up my wallpaper. I took an image from Digital Blasphemy and colored it blue and green, and dualed it for my monitor. I also made a trihead version for when I get a 3rd monitor. Here are thumbnails (I can't post the full version without violating copyright.)

Finally, a reason to read printer spam Sat Jul 26 13:03:10 CDT 2003

We finally have a printer here at Chez Cabal23. A HP Deskjet 842C, at least thats what the case says. The software says it's a 840C. Whatever. We've had it for a while, but we were waiting on the power supply to come in via Ebay. Once that was in, I tried to setup the printer under SuSE on Shub-Internet. That didn't work too well. Then again, having no idea how printers and linux work together, this was not a suprising problem. So I gave up, and stuck it under Rhiannon's computer. Installed fine, once I got USB working. *thud* I hate windows. So now we can kill trees like everyone else ;)

Well, I finally got my car mobile. For those I haven't kept in the loop, the tire that was flat but not shreaded from last week's adventure went flat again. And wouldn't reinflate from fix-a-flat or from my air pump. So I think, ok...I'll just pull the tire off, take it to the car place, get it fixed, come back, remount it, and get the other repaired. A PITA sure, but not a big deal.

I can't find the lugnut key. My car for some insanity has locking lugnuts. And I can't find the $@$* key. So off to walmart, buy a keyset. Wrong one. *thud* Call and visit various car places, no luck. Finally give up today, and shell out money for another tow. *thud* Off to the local firestone, where I shell out too much for tires, get the mounted and set and off I go.

What have I learned from this mess ? I hate cars. I hate weird tires. I hate spending money I don't really have. I hate the heat. But...I survived my bad car-ma, now from here on in it should be ok. *Crosses fingers* Please Eris, tred gently on my skull ?

Speaking of Eris...I did see Sinbad last night. Pirated copy, but it was fun. Cute, silly, and Michelle Pfeiffer did a fun play on Eris. Never heard a goddess say 'Ta' for goodbye before, but it fits. So go see it, unless you hate comedic pirateish movies with the Goddess of Chaos hanging around...

Well, another day of not sleeping worth a tinkers' damn. The heat and my allergies are driving me nuts, it's been a less than great season of heat. But I'm here, I'm awake and kicking. Been working on some shell scripting goodness, so I can automate the backup of Rhiannon's computer. Nothing fancy, just using smb, bash and rsync. Testing it right now. Why is everything involved in windows such a PITA ? Why am I asking such a dumb question.

Well the script works. Yeah me. So at least we'll have some backup if things go south on the Wintendo. And I don't have to mess with it. *happy dance* All automated, I wonder how I got any work done before I learned shell scripting. Oh yeah, I manually did everything. Ick.

Really nothing else of merit going on in my life, or at least I can't think of anything. Lack of sleep will do that. ;) But at least I have pop-tarts and mt dew. Hail Eris, all Hail Discordia. :)

Made it home in one piece, more or less. Actually, more less than more... thanks to two flat tires north of Waco. *thud* One was just loosing air, but the other was shreaded. So spare on the shreaded tire, fix o flat from the gas station a 1/2 mile away in the other, and away I went...slowly. But I finally made it home to redhead and cats and ferrets and Shubby ;) So it's all good. Now to go fall over...

Vulpine's Movie Reviews Tues Jul 15 23:19:58 CDT 2003
Mood: Good Music of the Day: None
Ok, I've seen quite a few movies this last week. So I thought I'd do my quick reviews of the various movies.

  • Bruce Almighty:
This was the first movie of the run, me and Rhiannon went to see it. Jim Carrey is back to his usual sillyness, and this was much more enjoyable than him trying to be a 'Serious Actor'. The plot is very simple, a man who's feeling picked on by life. So $DEITY gives him a chance to run things. And the usual issues happen. A very Discordian movie, with lots of 5's and 23's floating around. It's fun, if you like silly movies.

  • Pirates of the Caribbean

And that night, we went to see POTC. Now this was a pirate movie. Johhny Depp is so over the top it's perfect. The special effects were flawless, and in general it was a damn good movie. Something I would see twice. :)

  • League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Now this was a movie I was looking forward to...and to my dismay, I was kinda disappointed. While Sean Connery was good as Alan Quatermain, it didn't carry the movie. It dragged in the middle alot, and quite a few continuity goofs. But it was still worth seeing IMHO

And on Saturday, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean again, it's a movie worth seeing twice...or three times. :) So yeah, it was a busy movie watching week.

Well, on Friday I decided to drive up to Dallas for a short visit, since it was SugarFae's birthday. Was suppost to be one of those short visits, drive in, party, sleep, drive back. All good. Well as usual in my life...things went otherwise... Thursday my car was acting up, so I replaced the battery. Starts running again. Ok, head to DFW...about half way to DFW my car starts running odd...then all the elecrical stuff in the car went out...then the car died. Not good. I was between the town of West Texas and Hillsboro (about 60 miles from DFW). So I curse alot, then hoof it to the nearest gas station. Call a friend in DFW (Hi Amythest, you rock :) She drives down and gets my ass from the land of loony (aka rural texas) and back to Fort Worth. Shower, change clothes and head on to SugarFae's party. Have fun, go and see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with the DFWUfies. Head back to where I'm staying...pass out. The next day dawns. I make some calls, try to figure out who to contact about my dead car. The best I do is telling my mom what's going on, and finding out what my insurance covers ($40 of the tow fee). Help Amythest with some class stuff for her coven, go to ritual with her group. Then I get dragged out to see Pirates of the Carribean (again). Yes, eventually I'll post my movie reviews. Came home after the movie, passed out again. Woke up today, plotted more with my mom for rescuing my car. Called in on unemployment, then went to listen in on a gaming session. Tomorrow I should get the car up, and hopefully fixed in the next day or so. Then back to the big A. *yawn* Wish me luck

Well, I tried to rebuild Fnord as a all in one server...and of course, I had issues. SuSE 8.0 for some reason doesn't like the raid controller built into the motherboard. So back to file server config (glad I didn't wipe the original root drive while I was doing all this.) with the addition of a 13 gig /home partition on the fileserver. Weeeee. I think I'm going back to Plan G (I think) and picking up a cheap motherboard for a DNS/Web/Gateway server. Or not. Who knows, everytime I start planning reality pops up and jack slaps my plans. *sigh* Who knows, maybe the cash will come in soon. Or maybe I'll just have to rob a bank...

Well, as promised the full tale of this weekend. :)

Got out to the campsite around 7pm on Thursday. This is camping with the same group as last time, back in May. So we get there, setup the campsite (with new tent). Wander around, catch up with people I haven't seen much. It rained alot, but it kept things cool. Spent the time socializing and having a good time, lots of bad jokes and stories to be told. When it did get hot, I got some swimming in, or at least lazing around in the pool ;) Plus, got to see lots of cute pagan chicks. Always a good thing. Only down thing, well besides the rain, was trying to break my ankle walking in the dark. I only twisted it a little, but I scared the bloody blue hell out of myself when I heard my ankle pop as I went down. I checked it out, no break. Had a medic check it out, he agreed, no sprain no break just strain. Funny thing, the reason I was wandering around in the dark was to get a drum for a friend who'd sprained his ankle. Damn, it's catching. ;) Got some sympathy for that.

I packed Skippy with me, in his Summer Gear. This scared, shocked and in general amused quite a few people. Elder Gods on a campout...who'd have thunk it. All in all, it was a good weekend...glad I'm home though, bedtime early I think today.

Well, it seems our complex here decided that while trying to fix the watermains, that we all had too much phone service. So they cut some line. Net result = offline for 10 hours. *Thud* And on a day I really could have used the internet and the ability to reach out to human beings. Oh well, life sucks...get a helmet. But we're back, 369 emails in 10 hours. Oooh fun...And I'll be off line most of the weekend, I got the silly idea that camping might be fun. *thud* *thud* *thud*
