HTML Fun and FrivolityMarch 29th 2001
Well I played with people's websites tonight. I got creative using Gimp and Vim. (My webpage coding tools of choice.) I ended up revamping 3 pages in short order. Here, Here, and Here. Warning, if looking at pagan stuff gets you in trouble at work/home, don't go there. Friendly warning from your favorite technopagan. For the HTML code fiends, no nothing fance with PHP or MySQL. But they're pretty, and they work. While I was at it, I got another screenshot. Nothing too fancy, actually it did have a few cool things, but somehow I overwrote the wrong shot :( Oh well. If I do more HTML crud like this, I need that 3rd monitor. Gimp running, netscape running a few term windows for vim, plus music and chatter. :)

DowntimeMarch 27th 2001
Well lair had a short vacation last night. It appears that something within Verio was majorly flerned. Couldn't get in from any point on the 'net. On the plus side, I had a crash course in setting up backup MX servers. Special thanks to The Shrew for letting me use her server for backup. :) So now, I really think it's time to find a new home for the Cyberfox family of domains. I just don't trust Verio not to mess things up. Anyone want to give me a free colo-space ? ;)

EmploymentMarch 27th 2001
Well, it looks like I'm back in the realm of the employed. I got called about a job doing...ick...tech support. But it's a job, incoming and it might keep me from going insane with boredom. And it means I can make money while looking for something fun and geeky. So this is fairly good news... now to just remember how to survive doing TS.

American NightmareMarch 27th 2001
Well, I got to see American Nightmare last Friday. This was what will be seen in the movie theaters when it gets released. I'm in the 2nd scene, and wow...I look human :) And due to years of phone headsets and queues, hearing my own voice isn't that weird for me. The movie is good, very good. Actually spooked me in a spot. Lets just say being buried alive isn't what I'd call a good way to go. On a lighter note, I'm working on an American Nightmare drinking game. ;) Silly ? Me ? Nah....*laugh* So go to the website, buy a poster, see the movie, collect the gum cards. I'll even autograph stuff, especially if your a cute redhead with a fondness for geeks ;)

EmailMarch 27th 2001
Yet another new Email...thanks to Tim for the address.

MIR - R.I.P. 1986-2001March 23th 2001
Well, it's offical. Mir is down. Well there goes that idea of buying it from Russia and moving into space ;) Details can be found here. Personally I've always been curious about space stations. Been a space nut since I was old enough to read and watch TV. Hmm, hopefully before I'm too old to go, we'll have commercial space flight. Well, I can dream.

Job Hunting HellMarch 22th 2001
Another interview, another wait on a call back. I'm learning to hate job hunting. Small rant time, why the hell do I have to fill out an application when they already have my resume. At least all the job history crap, which is redundant as hell. For that matter, why doesn't some company just create a program to act as a application. I have horrid handwriting, so filling out these moronic pieces of paper just gets on my nerves and confuses the idiots in HR. I hate paper some days. Oh well.

More EmailsMarch 22th 2001
Got a few new email addresses. Thanks to Wokka for the addresses :)

Screenshot and OperaMarch 22th 2001
Got Opera running tonight. Like that was hard. They make it almost idiot proof to install. Which means we will have a better class of idiots next week. So take a look at the screenshot here. Warning: the screenshot shows a nude female, so do not look if it will get you fired. :)

Mt DewMarch 22th 2001
Say no more :)

Screenshot and EazelMarch 20th 2001
Yet another screenshot, this one showing the hell I went though trying to get Eazel's Nautilus filemanager installed. Lets just say it was a long waste of time. Too many new libs, that didn't want to play well with each other. I worked on it for about 3 hours all in all last night. Never got it to work. In the shot, you see me updating Gnome to try and fix some lib issue. Argh. Makes me wonder why I try some days. Oh well, I'll stick to the Gnome File Manager, at least until E17 is stable and usable. But if your curious, take a look at the Screenshot.

Life, the Universe and Very LittleMarch 20th 2001
Time for a small indulgence in whining. I've been unemployed for 2 months now, since leaving Clearwire. In that time I've learned that

  • A. Job hunting is not conducive to a good mood, especially if your clincal depressive.
  • B. Headhunters are on crack.
  • C. The job search boards are on a similar flavor of crack.
  • D. All those people who caused the dot.com boom and bust should be flogged.

I'd like to think I'm a fairly decent sysadmin. I'm not the best or the brightest, but I think I'd make a good asset to a company. But do I get hired, nope. I feel like a cyberleper right now. *sigh* Oh well, tomorrow I swallow my pride and go apply for a job doing level one DSL support. Making less money then I did at Verio, hell almost making less money than I did when I started at OnRamp. But no other real option, my bank account be bled dry. Mood ? It's been better.

  • Return of the FoxCamMarch 19th 2001
Well, it's back...I have a webcam again. I got bored, and someone asked nicely if I'd turn it back on. So I did. *waves at the camera* So go check it out.

    Network PageMarch 16th 2001
Finally got my Network page updated...well kinda. Give it a look.

    DVDsMarch 16th 2001
Picked up a few new DVD's at Best Buy, gotta love gift certificates that you loose for a while. Got Jackie Chan's Legend of Drunken Master, Man with Two Brains, and the complete Blair Witch set (both movies and the video games.) Total out of pocket, $11 and some change. :) I've seen all these before, but I'm looking forward to the movie orgy this evening. :)

    Firewall HellMarch 16th 2001
Ok, what deity is in charge of Firewalls, and why does s/he hate me so. I get the box built, get it installed...find out that first, the patch cable I bought from Fry's ain't a patch cable. Then the firewall doesn't recognize either nic. Then I remember why I parted out this motherboard, the keyboard controller is flerned.
ARGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a fscking plot against me. *sob*

    The Lone GunmenMarch 16th 2001
On the positive side, I found a new TV show I actually like. The Lone Gunmen. It's the spinoff from the X-Files. And frankly, I like it alot better than X-Files. It's funny, kinda silly. A Shadowrun game gone horribly wrong. Gotta watch it. Of course, I watch it by downloading mpgs and watching that way, but still that's fun :) Come on, give em a try.

    Colo NewsMarch 15th 2001
Due to situations beyond my control, my plans for installing a colo box to replace lair have gone south for the winter...or at least til I get a job that pays enough for me to afford a colo. Oh well, now I have a nice K6-3 450 sitting around doing nothing...hmm, maybe I should install Solaris 8 on it for yucks and grins, ;)

    Car StereoMarch 15th 2001
Well, back on Tuesday I finally got my car stereo replaced. The bill was completely covered by my insurance. Yeah ! Well, except for the raise in premiums I'll have to deal with later...oh well. Same model I had last time, but cheaper :) It's nice to have something to listen to, besides the wind and my own thoughts.

    FirewallMarch 15th 2001
After much gnashing of teeth and general headache, I finally got a low end pentium box built to act like a firewall. Foxgate is built, just not installed yet. That will be tonight, probably. For the curious, it's a Pentium 133 with 48 megs of ram, a 1 gig hard drive and a pair of Netgear 10/100 NIC's. Nice, simple, stable...I hope :) So now I can go back to having a working file server, that only does fileserving.

Yet More Email AddressesMarch 8th 2001
Got a few new ones, thanks Mel And as I just found out, I've been remiss in thanking a few people.

Thanks Amythest, WesM (who provided a fsckload of them), Jessila, Jerry, MikeP, Arwen, Andrew, The Shrew, and anyone else I forgot. Danke all. And remember, you too can contribute. Just forward vulpine@yourdomain.com to vulpine@cyberfox.org and drop me an email. See, it's easy.

    Hello and GoodbyeMarch 6th 2001
Time to say farewell for now to Fennec, my Mp3 Server. I shut him down today to use him for parts in building a new box. Say hello to Arctic, which will be my new web/ftp/mail server. Due to some issues I have with the Verio virtual server that is currently hosting this site, I've been looking to find a replacement. So I made a deal with the devil to setup a nice colocation. So as soon as I finish getting things moved around and setup, I'll be migrating all of cyberfox.org to the new box. If your hosting your website on cyberfox, don't worry...you won't get moved until after you get a chance to test out the new box.

    EmailsMarch 5th 2001
Well, I finally linked the emails page on the nav bar on the left. So you can see all the new emails addesses I have. Special thanks to Arcterex, Merlin and Jander for the email addresses. :)

    TempestMarch 5th 2001
Saw my favorite band this weekend at North Texas Irish Fest. Actually saw them a total of three times. Once on Saturday, and twice Sunday. Great way to spend a weekend, well that and all the redheads at an Irish fest. I was happy :) This was the first time I got to see the new fiddle player, Jim Hurley. Now, I'm a long time Mike Mullen fan. So any new fiddle player would have to be pretty impressive. Well, Jim is. Damn impressive. He had all
    Fsckin' Stupid CriminalsMarch 5th 2001
Into each life some rain must fall. And this time it involved someone being pissy. I woke up yesterday to a bad thing. Some jerk had busted in my window and stolen my car stereo. Very damn annoying. Why am I not upset ? Well, for one the window is covered by my insurance. Two, the stereo didn't work. So whoever this jerk was, he went though all that effort for nothing. Yeah, all he/she/they took was a non-working stereo, not my longcoat, not my CD collection, nothing else. Moron. *laugh* Oh well, gotta laugh...it's just so stupid.
