Fun with ringtones
|
Sun Mar 31 14:29:20 CST 2002
|
|
Well, I've been having fun with my new cellphone. First I spent a nice
long while entering everyone into my phone. Then I spent even longer adding
email addresses. Then I went to
SuperMegaPhone (thanks Wes) and
downloaded a few ringtones for my phone. Specifically the theme to
Red Dwarf, Carmen Buranda (aka the theme to Omen) and the one I've been
dreaming of, Tubular Bells (aka the theme to the Exorcist). That's what I
have on the phone, and boy is it spooky when the phone rings and your
asleep ;) Fun fun fun.

Fun at work
|
Sun Mar 24 23:25:11 CST 2002
|
|
I had an intresting surprise last week. On Thursday our mail servers went
karfluki. Slow sending and receiving of email, progressively getting worse.
I got a customer who couldn't receive email...ok, no big deal, test message
from my work account. Nope. On a whim, I sent a 'mail -v' from kitsune,
to see what the errors from the server were, if any. Well, the inbound
servers were defering connections to the next server...all 12 of them.
So the mail was queueing...that's bad. I tell my boss, and then fill out a
report for the Network Ops and Systems peoples. Back to work, mostly telling
people that yes, mail is down, no we don't have an ETA, it will be back up
shortly. Finish up my day and go home. The next day I go into work, and
my super is there...and he wants to talk to me. Oh no...then he leads me into
the VP of Customer Care's office....oh SH*T !!! what did I do ? And I get
a nice congratulations and a well done from the VP, on how well I noted
everything, and troubleshooted the problem, and that I was the first person
to figure out it was a problem, not just slow email. So I get a nice note
in my record from the VP, for a job well done. I was a very happy fox. Now
if I can just transfer off the floor...I'll be an esctatic fox :)

Resident Evil
|
Sun Mar 24 16:21:22 CST 2002
|
|
Well I went to see Resident Evil
on Friday. Well, it was...special. No plot, little acting, lots of
violence. LOTS of violence. A whole lot of violence. Blood everywhere,
killer zombies, undead doggies. Gotta love it. Since I've never played the
game, I don't know how well it matches the game, but for a bad horror movie
it wasn't bad. I give it 3 shambling cadavers. :)

New Cell Phone
|
Sun Mar 24 15:40:46 CST 2002
|
|
Well, I'm leashed again. I got a new cellphone, one of the
Nokia
5165's. It's nice, almost the same as my old one...but a few more
features, like being able to send emails amd add ringtones. Tres cool. :)
I need to pick up a few things, like a new faceplate and a belt clip, and
a spare battery or two...especially because I'm thinking of disconnecting
my home phone and using this exclusively. I'd save money, and it would be
more useful. Still pondering that.

Screenshot madness :)
|
Fri Mar 22 00:22:28 CST 2002
|
Well, we got silly on #dfwufies. Compairing screenshots and all, and of
course...I had to throw my two cents in. The shot on the left is
Techie's (of no working website right now) and the one on the right is
Needo's. I think mine is cooler.
Btw, you can see my new GAIM
client running, running ICQ, Yahoo, AIM, and now Jabber. Yep, you can
chat with me at vulpine@jabber.org if you don't like the other
3 ;) Silly me ? Yeppers :)

Big Fox News
|
Sun Mar 17 14:21:10 CST 2002
|
|
Well, I've got some big news for people. As most people reading this know,
I have issues with clinical depression. Well, I finally went to the
doctor, talked to him about options. Well, we decided that I'll try a
drug called
Effexor. It's an antideprssent, that seems to work very well, according
to what I've read. I've only been on it a short while, haven't noticed any
major mood changes. I have noticed some side effects though, including
nausea and weird dreams. But for the most part nothing too bad. So
we'll see. Maybe this will help, I really hope it does...the stress and
the depression, and life in general has been wearing me down. So, we'll see...

Gaim, LICQ, and messengers in general
|
Sun Mar 17 13:19:44 CST 2002
|
Hey there boys and ghouls. I recently upgraded
GAIM to v 0.54, and on a whim,
decided to try playing with the ICQ and Yahoo Messenger plugins. Wow, they
work. I've been a big fan of Licq for
years, but the changes that AOL made to the service has made it buggy at
best, and more often than not, unusable. So, finding a package that works
well is a very good thing (tm). Also, the new Gaim code comes with a
nifty script to take licq contact lists, and turn them into a GAIM buddy list.
Woohoo, I had this nightmare of switching 115 ICQ contacts to gaim. So
now I'm on GAIM as 3 people.
AIM: Vulpine137
ICQ: 9953685
Yahoo Messenger: Vulpine137
I need to add a few more, see what other plugins work well. :)

much...I coded more than I remembered. Go ahead and download it, play with
it, send me additions... :)

FoxShot

Hey boys and girls, the fox has been busy. Last night, after mozilla bashing
for a while, and taking the previous screenshot, I got thinking about
creating an automatic screenshot. Now
Tom Gilbert has one called scrot,
which is quite nifty...but due to some lib foo on my end, I can't use anymore.
So I wrote my own using bash. It imports the screenshot, makes a thumb
nail, and scp's it up to my server. One command, instead of the 4 or so
it took before. It's amazing how much of my coding is due to sheer lazyness
on my part. ;)
Here's another screenshot, a test of the script.
Nothing new, other than the script itself...but I'm damn proud of it. The
code will be up on foxwerks.cyberfox.org tomorrow day probably, once I finish commenting it. :) And I've almost
got my sig file generator done as well, so I'll post that as well. Check back
here for more.

Mozilla-0.9.9
|
Tue Mar 12 00:57:15 CST 2002
|
Ye flippin' gods...I downloaded Mozilla
0.9.9 tonight, thought I'd do a quick install...that was two hours ago.
Been compiling forever...I've seen kernels compile faster...hell, I've
rebuilt machines faster than this. I got so bored, I played around with
my desktop background, and just to make things slower...took a screenshot.
Still working on compiling...maybe by tomorrow... *laugh* For the curious,
the background is a gimped up image from
the Propaganda collection,
and my "new" default theme, BlueSteel...which as long time fans will recall,
was my original Enlightenment theme.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. :)

I'm damn bored...nothing new happening in my life, well, yes there is, but
I ain't ready to post it yet ;) Gotta be a tease. I'm about to rebuild
my Windows box, and add Linux so I can have a machine to experiment on...
note that about translates into "someday" ;) Maybe I can figure
out some of the toys I want to run on Kitsune, like
Mplayer. Oh well, one of these days
I'll get it built :)

Fennec Upgrade
|
Sun Mar 10 00:38:12 CST 2002
|
In my quest to slowly create a
terabyte file server I went ahead and added the 20 gig drive out of
Reynard's corpse, swapping it out for one of the 8.4 gig drives. The 8.4
will eventually go into a Linux/Windoze dual boot system I'm plotting. But
that's in the future. For now though, Fennec has the following drives.
7.5 gig
8.4 gig
13.4 gig
20 gig
40 gig
60 gig
That's 149.3 gigs of space (less formatted). Mostly for linux source files,
Mp3's and other Multimedia. I need a few more 60 gigs, fix all the space
issues...but for now, this is good :)
