New feature for cyberfox.org. You can now search my website for whatever
keywords you want. Cyberfox is now powered by
Google, just like Yahoo. This mean
I can IPO now and make lots of money. The code was real easy to install,
and is kinda neat. Go to Google
if you want to add this to your site.

on this, and I hadn't. So you get the late breaking updates ;) Check it

| Memorial Day | May 28th 2001 |
|
Bleah, the rest of the world is off work today...and I'm at work. And it's
been a bleah day at that. First I woke up 3 hours late...the fun of mis
setting your alarm clock. Then I get to work, and my cable connection
hoses out. Check the online support page, and yep...it's a real issue, not
my electricity this time. Eventually it came back. Then I go to lunch,
grab a quick burger and bring it back to work. Eat about half of it, and
wonder about the taste. Seems Jack in the Box jumbo jacks have onions. Which
I'm allergic to. Bleah. This day just gets better and better...now to see
what color of green I turn. I can't wait til the work day is over. Just
not been my day. Well, at least I'm still breathing...now that would be
a pain in the rump.

| A Little Bit of California | May 22nd 2001 |
|
Well, along with the cool Bay Area weather here in Texas, I've had another
Californian experence. Power outtage. But unlike the rolling blackouts in
CA, this is my own damn fault. Mental note, must pay electric bill...
computers work better with power. :( I wonder how much damage to my
network occured because of this. :( I hate when I'm a bonehead.

| Camping | May 21st 2001 |
|
Went out camping on Saturday with my coven. Had a very nice time, other
than the heat and humidity. But boy was I nice and relaxed, even though
I pretty much slept on the ground. No padding other than the sleeping
bag. Dumb me. Oh well. It was out by Lake Tawakoni, about 1 1/2 hours
away from home. Didn't want to come back to the real world, except for a
small degree of tech withdrawl. All I had was an email pager...and only
one person messaged me. But I had a good time. Next time, I bring a
matress and a wireless internet connection ;)

| Tech Stuff | May 21st 2001 |

I haven't done alot of real geeking at home in a while. Been too tired, sick
and generally stressed out. But, now that I'm sorta relaxed I'm going to
get back into the geek swing of things. I've got some parts coming in,
a couple of motherboards and a case. First I'm going to finally rebuild that
blasted firewall ;) Then I'm going to upgrade reynard (my windows box),
move the bits to a fulltower case and mb combo that should be able to use
a AMD k6-2 550. I also want to rebuild vulpes to do DNS, and then setup
urocyon as a monitoring and backup server. Get
Big Brother working on it, as well as
other toys. After that, I need to save up for a few harddrives. Hmm,
I really need a part time job on top of this one. Too many toys, not
enough cash.

| Changes, they are a comin' | May 16th 2001 |
Well, I've been busy with redesigning and adding stuff to the website. I've
added a few new planned pages, so you can learn even more about little ol
me. Plus I'm splitting the links page, page about friends (I have a few) and
page that's regular ol' links. Not much, but I'm actually starting to fill
this site out with content.
Also, you may have noticed a neat little thing on the main page. I uploaded
my signature file and hacked together a little cgi script to parse it and
print a line everytime someone looks at the page. Kinda cool. If you want
to see the file, take a look here. All 255 of them :)

| A Knight's Tale | May 14th 2001 |
|
Well I saw A Knight's Tale tonight at the movies. Very fun movie, if you
can get past some glaring historical inaccuracies. Especially the rock
music. But it was fun. And they got some things very right. All in all,
a fun movie. Two paws up (unless your in the SCA, then 1 1/2)

On Saturday, one of my favorite authors passed on. RIP Mr. Adams, so long and
thanks for all the fish.

| Emails | May 7th 2001 |
Current total is 45, thanks to the addition of a
Hypernet Communications email address. On a side note, I heard that
Trae McCombs, who is who I stole this
idea from, is no longer collecting email addresses. Wimp ;)
Additional, the total just got higher, thanks to
Treffie and
Pat, as well as a brand new
domain for me from Jander.
I am now the offical owner of
evilvulpine.net. :) Seems appropriate :)

| Adventures in Moviewatching | May 5th 2001 |

Well I went to see the Mummy Returns last night. Saw about half of it when
a thunderstorm took out the grid around the theater. Blackouts are fun,
what was more fun was trying to get out of the theater parking lot. It's
amazing, how people become herd critters when the power goes out...everyone
went the same exact way to the highway. Let me back up, the theater we
were in is attached to a very large mall here in Texas. Lots of people all
leaving at once. Through one 2 lane road. *laugh* So I backtracked to
one of the other entrances, and took back roads until I came to the highway.
Funfunfun. Oh well, I'm used to power outages...something about living
in New York and being used to power outages. :) Well they say I can
cash my ticket stub in for a free pass, may do that tonight or
tomorrow.

| Firewall Foo | May 3rd 2001 |
|
Well, after some hacking and some actual manual reading, I got my firewall
set to allow me access from the outside world. Specifically to allow
SSH access. My firewall was a touch too secure. Oh well. That's fixed
now. Now, to learn more about routing this thing, and doing some fancy
firewall foo :)

| Email Pager | May 3rd 2001 |
|
I got a new toy, I went and traded a Celeron 533 processor for a 2 way
text pager. I'm getting my service though
WebLinkWireless. It's kinda
cool. Now I can email people if I'm at the computer or not. I'm such a
geek.

| Musings and Pondering | May 3rd 2001 |

Hmm, a little babble time I think. I've been at my new job at
Hypernet for nearly two weeks. So far
I've gotten to play on some intresting equipment for doing voice and data,
help plan out a new POP (point of presence), carry in some heavy batteries,
and tinker with QVWM...which has to be
the smallest Windowmanager I have ever messed with. It's no Enlightenment,
but it works. So far I haven't done anything truely mind blowing here, and
I probably won't. But who knows, I may end up doing more of the admin/fun
stuff. Or not. But unlike most of the other jobhunting geeks I know, I
have a paycheck. Ok, I took 40% paycut from
Clearwire to here...but I have a job, and it's in the Tech field. And not
level 1 tech support. Oh well. I can pay the bills, and slowly get out
of debt. So that's a plus. I'm not making $100K a year, nor will I
become a millionaire from stock options...but guess what, I'm not too upset.
I like my job (other than the drive), and very few people can say that. Do
I stay here ? For now, yes. If something better comes along, I'll probably
take it. But it has to meet my definition of better. And money is only a
small percentage of that.
Google style benefits would be better. Oh well. If I worked for Google,
I'd have to live near Silly Valley...hmm, and what's the flaw with this plan.
Not much of one, other than I'm of two minds about leaving Texas. As little
as I like this state, this has been home for 14 years. And nearly everyone
I know lives here. It would be very hard to pick up stakes and move out
of the state. But the wanderlust is starting again, so I'm going to need
to make some kind of trip in the not so distant future...say before Fall,
or I will go nuts. I want to go back to San Fran, and this time wander
past the city limits. And I have some friends who've convinced me I'm going
to attend DragonCon in Atlanta this
year. So that will be a nice (if short) break. So, any other ideas ?
On that note, I think I'm done babbling. :)
