And yet more emails. Fri May 31 15:07:59 CDT 2002
Special thanks to BigJohn for giving me two more emails :) Woohoo, I should have 100 by the end of summer, even if I have to buy a dozen domains ;)

Snow-fox.org Fri May 31 13:05:50 CDT 2002
Well, since I was bored...and I thought a certain friend of mine deserved her own home page, I went ahead and registered snow-fox.org, then got it quasi-setup. Still working on the actual pages, but the barebones is up. And of course, I setup the emails as well. Feel free to email her @ rhiannon@snow-fox.org, and of course...I snagged vulpine@snow-fox.org for myself.

How to know your in a good mood ? Wed May 29 00:33:14 CDT 2002
Your listening to Weird Al and cooking chicken ? Well, it works for me. Speaking of Weird Al...looks like they are going to finally release UHF on dvd. :) Woohoo, now that's a weird ass movie that needs to be out on DVD. :)

Weekend Fun Tue May 28 13:24:25 CDT 2002
Well, Saturday night I went and rented a few movies and went to work reinstalling a machine with SuSE 7.0. Boy, what a clusterfsck. First the install kept borking, then lilo wouldn't write correctly. Fix that, get it running, get it on the network... then the hard drive failed ARGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I'm better now. Ok, I think it's time to buy a new hard drive, instead of using old, worn parts. Hmm, now to find a nice 10 gig drive.

One of the movies I rented was 13 Ghosts. Now I was told that this would give me nightmares and was the scariest thing I'd ever see. Well, I guess I'm jaded or cynical, or just plain hard to scare, but it wasn't that scary. Kinda gross in spots, neat idea, pretty good concept even. But not so scary I'd have nightmares. I watched it twice, once while geeking. Then I took it over to a friend's house to watch it. This friend is famed for throwing popcorn on me when we saw House on Haunted Hill within the first 5 min of the movie starting. (Hi there, you know who you are :) Well, while watching this movie...no popcorn throwing...of course, we had no popcorn. ;) But the one zen popcorn though wasn't that scary. So, if your jaded about horror movies...don't expect to be scared. It's good, don't get me wrong...but it's not that scary.

How to know your in a bad mood ? Mon May 27 23:29:12 CDT 2002
When listening to Virgin Steele isn't aggressive enough, and you switch to a mix of Slayer, White Zombie and King Diamond...PLUS Virgin Steele. Yep, I'm a metal head, a fairly fed up with the world metalhead.

Life Change Fri May 24 01:49:50 CDT 2002
Ok, since I'm feeling verbose, I'll touch on a big change in my life. As most of you know, I am a High Priest within the American Tradition of the Goddess. Until last week I was part of the original coven. Due to some personal issues, as well as a few subtle notes from the Gods, I decided to leave and start working on my own. For the non-pagans in the crowd, this is sorta like a a musician leaving a band and starting a solo career. Well, not really, but none of the other explainations were any clearer. So, the Fox gets to take some time to figure out what's next, what do I want to do, and what will be best for me. The options are...

  • Stay solitare and just visit alot...(aka the Trad mooch) ;)
  • Join an existing coven
  • Start a study group
  • Fully retire (not an option I'm planning, but it is one.)

Each has its own pluses and minuses. I guess it all depends on where I am in a year or so. I don't know, and to be honest...I'm not too worried about it. What ever happens, happens.

  • Ok...this is twisted.... Fri May 24 01:46:31 CDT 2002

New Logo Fri May 24 00:47:20 CDT 2002
Well, I got bored and busy, and updated the website with a logo that a good friend and trad-mate of mine did. I like it, and sooner or later you'll be able to snag stuff off of Cafe Press with the logo. Special thanks to Jade for the original image, and thanks to The GIMP for the ability to modify it as I needed :)

Emails, emails, emails... Fri May 24 00:01:55 CDT 2002
Another day, another email. The ubergeek and email provider Jander has come though again with a new email address. And this one is a hoot. I wonder if this means he has issues with a Telco. I wonder, who could Hellrizon be ? ;) Thanks Jander :)

New Look Thu May 23 21:29:29 CDT 2002
Yep, I got a little bored and changed the background on my page. Over the next few $TIMEPERIODS I'll be changing a bit more than just the look. Pages, layouts, whatnot. Make it a little more personal to me. Also I'll be moving most of the geek stuff to the Cabal23 pages in the near future as well. Not all of it, but some. Put that page to use as well. Expect it to get a facelift as well over the next while. So keep your eyes open.

Attack of the Clones Tue May 21 20:30:12 CDT 2002
Well, I got to see Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones last weekend. My opinion ? Well, it's better than Episode I, but it doesn't match up to the 3 earlier movies. But then again, very little could match up to them. On the plus side we get to see lots of Jedi fights, Jar Jar Binks shows his true colors as the cause of the fall of the Republic, and you get to see Yoda kick some serious ass. A rule of mine, from years of martial arts...the shorter and older the opponent, the more he will kick your teeth in. Well, Yoda is about 3 feet tall, around what...700 years old....you be the judge. ;)

For the rest, the movie dragged in spots...the romantic scenes looked like junk out of Belverly Hills 90210. But it was still good IMHO. Vulpine says...go see it. :)

    Opera 6.0 Thu May 16 00:40:01 CDT 2002
Well today was the release day for Opera 6.0. And of course, I went and snagged it. And boy do I like it. Alot of the annoying bugs seem to be fixed from the beta, plus now we have sounds. *laugh* Ok, it's a silly thing...but it can be fun. Not everything is perfect yet, but I think alot of that will be worked out when I finish susing out the config files. :)

Woodchuck Swag Wed May 15 14:05:57 CDT 2002
Woohoo. I got my tshirt from Woodchuck :) Thanks to a little promo they had, I got a nifty looking tshirt. Makes a nice change from the work wear. Hmm, funny how I can't drink due to the effexor, but I can advertise the company ;)

    Spider-Man Sun May 12 18:43:16 CDT 2002
Movie night friday night, I went to see Spider-Man with Maeve. Good movie, pretty close to the comic as I recall. Minus a few changes that probably make more sense to the jaded youth of today ;) Whoever did the casting for this did a very amazing job, most everyone looked like how I pictured the characters would look in real life. Special kudos to Kirsten Dunst for good acting, and looking very yummy thoughout the movie. Very nice. Also, for you b-movie fans, our hero Bruce Campbell has a nice little role in the movie. :) Plot moves fairly quickly, with enough back story to make sense for those who've never read the comics. Action is a little violent, but not so much as to detract from the movie. I really really recommend this one. Now to see if Attack of the Clones will beat this. Lucas has some stiff competition.

New email Sun May 12 15:12:44 CDT 2002
Well, I finally got a new email from work. You'd think working for an ISP, I'd have access to lots of domains. Nope. Just been able to add one since the original vulpine@airmail.net Now I have...vulpine@pdq.net. Woohoo for me ;) Ok, ok, it's not much...but it's something.

Desktop Fun Thu May 9 00:16:11 CDT 2002
Hey all, just wanted to post my latest screenshot. Yep, bored fox...

A few new things, got Opera all decked out with some skins stuff. Also showing off BitchX running multiple channels and servers. 3 seperate servers, 3 seperate channels. Not for the faint of heart. The other usual apps, and me plotting a rebuilt machine here at Chez Cyberfox...building an experiment and abuse box for playing. One of these days I'll actually build one that doesn't explode in 2 days. Not much else...maybe next time I do a screenshot, I'll have something spiffy for you lot.

    Opera Wed May 8 19:27:51 CDT 2002
No, this isn't an announcement that I'm becoming an Opera star, though I do like De Niberlung. A week or so ago I switched from using Konqueror to using Opera 6. Opera handles things like secure sites better than konqueror, along with multiple windows, and an easier way to manage bookmarks. I'm actually planning on registering Opera, unless I find some reason to just not use it. Don't get me wrong, I like Konqueror, but I think Opera is a better fit for me.

Long Lost Relatives. Wed May 8 18:58:32 CDT 2002
Well, I got a shock a while back. I received an email from my niece. Ok, you don't think it's shocking...well I haven't heard from her in 20 odd years. But thanks to the magick of the internet, she was able to find this site and dropped me an email. *grin* And yes, she didn't go to sleep reading about my geek adventures. I'm still amazed, and very glad she found me :) *sings "It's a small world"*

    Secondary MX records...redux Sun May 5 13:07:55 CDT 2002
Ok, I may have had secondary mx working, and just had a b0rked method of testing. Breaking your own DNS to see if mail works seems to have a few flaws. If anyone reading this knows a better way feel free to email at vulpine@cyberfox.org.

Jason X: Evil Gets an Upgrade Sat May 4 22:52:01 CDT 2002
Well, this weekend I got to see Jason X aka Friday the 13th, part 10. Not bad, not bad at all. Now it's not Shakespeare, but the Friday the 13th movies have always had a special place in my heart...what can I say, I love gore flicks. This one, well lets just say it has the usual Friday the 13th motif, blood, unique deaths, scantily clad chicks, bad jokes. I laughed alot, especially at one memorable line. 'This is nothing, during the Microsoft conflict we had to beat each other with our own severed limbs.' Now that's comedy ;) No matter where you send good old Jason Vorhees, weither it's to NYC or Outer Space, he always comes out ahead (or comes out with a severed head). Vulpine says, go see it unless you hate the sight of blood.

Secondary MX records Sat May 4 21:07:21 CDT 2002
Ok...someone tell me why does setting up secondary MX records have to be such a pain in the @ss under QMail. Most every admin I know locally is a qmail addict, they swear up and down how easy it is. I'm weird, I'm a Sendmail Freak. I know sendmail can be evil, weird and nasty...but it's a known evil. I actually do understand most of the sendmail.cf file, I can make it work with little problems. Qmail ? It's confusing and weird. Especially when I asked a nice simple question. "How do I setup qmail to queue mail as a secondary MX?" Ok, it's simple for me. Basically I want a second server that a friend of mine hosts to cache any messages sent to me when my primary server is down, unreachable or otherwise b0rked. In sendmail this is fairly simple, in qmail it seems to be a exercise in pain. I'm trying one more trick, and if that doesn't work...I'm going to start begging for access to a 2nd sendmail box to do this...*crosses fingers*

Up and Down, up and down. Sat May 4 01:01:45 CDT 2002
Well, my cable went out again Wednesday. Well foo. Do the usual powercycling and rebooting nonsense. Nope, no cable light...aka, no signal from the junction box. Call support. Now last time I called support, it was the overnight shift, and whoever I got was fairly well clued. This time, I got a not so clued tech. I tell him the problem, and that it appears my cable is down at the box. He askes me to reboot and powercycle...which I've done. Now I know this is most likely pointless, but I'll save time just doing it and not arguing, and he may be right. As a tech weenie I've seen weirder things happen, and he's probably reading from a script of what to do. Ok, reboot the firewall, powercycle the modem. No cable light. He then asks me to 'Click on Start and go to...' Deja vu, I do this all day. I head him off at the pass, tell him I'm running linux. He's confused, I just broke his script. Lots of banter about supported vs unsupported...finally I get xfered to....billing. *thud* Quick confab with the billing person, and I get xfered over to level 2, which promptly fills out my request for a tech to come out and re plug in my damn cable. (See previous fix). Ok, it will be monday. Foo. Go back to billing, get my refund for lost time, go on my merry way. Today (Friday) in an act of sheer faith, I reboot my modem. Wow, a cable light. Reboot firewall, no IP. Redo, same. Go take a shower, come back...and just for giggles, one more time I reboot things... and I get an IP. And email. And all my other crap I've missed. WOOHOO ! So tomorrow I get to call AT&T and tell them to cancel the tech, hopefully my cable won't nuke right after that. This is really starting to get to me... I need to get a major raise and run a T-1 to my house, fiber is so much nicer than coax to deal with. ;)
