Well, I've been having fun once I revived my palmpilot. I was up last
night reading Arthur C Clark's 2061 on my palm pilot. I'm such a geek.
And in true Discordigeek fashion, I have the Principia Discordia on my
Palm Pilot. I'm tempted to turn some American Tradition of the Goddess docs to palm docs, but I have this feeling
I'll get glared at for my efforts. May do it anyway, just to be weird.

Well, I got the office sorta cleaned up. Tomorrow I'm planning to measure out
the desk space, and hit home depot to do some plotting. Figure out how much
for wood and brackets and stuff. Along with things to do bring elecricity over
to the other side of the room. And lighting. :) Also found my palm pilot
again, and got my laptop working correctly. :) Well at least booting :) So
I'm pretty happy. Well other than not sleeping worth a damn and generally
feeling bleah. So on that note, I'm going to post this already. ;)

Well, ever since I got WineX and Starcraft running on Shub-Internet, I've been playing starcraft fairly addictively.
I remember being a big fan of Warcraft, but finding Starcraft a little
dull. I guess I expected more than just Warcraft with aliens. Well, after
several years of almost no gaming...it's not dull anymore. I finished up
the Terran campaign fairly easily, other than not knowing what did what ;)
Now I'm on the Zerg, which are sorta like Aliens from the movies. And a
very different strategy than either Terrans, or anything from Warcraft. I've
taken to calling it bum's rush ;) Lots of little guys, in swarms. That
and workable ambushes...having tunneling aliens makes it quite fun. :)
I need to get the expanson pack, Brood War, just to keep having games to
play for the next few months. Also need to track down some new games.
Hmm...any ideas ?

Well, today I got to see Star Trek: Nemesis today. And as
badly as it was panned by fans and reviewers alike I expected it to be
high cheese. It's not. It's not super good, and I don't mind not seeing it
in the theaters. But it was alot better than the last one. More belivable
and better acted. It did read more like a 2 hour long Star Trek TNG episode,
but I could live with it. The show was better, but I enjoyed it alot.
Some of the plot kips were just not needed, but all in all I enjoyed it.
I wonder what's next for the series....The TNG crew is wearing thin, DS9
ended without much of a follow though in movies, same with Voyager. And
Enterprise never lit my mind up. Oh well. We will see.

Well, I went and saw Matrix:
Reloaded today. And I loved it. Ok, it's confusing and the ending
will throw you brain from 5th to 3rd...and in the process break your mind.
But it takes the Matrix in a way I didn't expect, and I loved. The
fight scenes are amazing (and I scared i
Rhiannon by pointing out that I recognized
Woo-ping Yuen style
in the fight scenes). The fights and stunts are the high points, I will
admit I still don't think Keanu Reeves can act. But he's belivable in the
movie. I also liked how they showed Zion, it was believable to me. I
really can't wait for Revolutions later this year :)

Ok, that should be "Gone to DFW" since I went and came back ;) Drove up
Wednesday to visit my mom for a late mother's day. Get on the road late,
but I should have gotten there about 4:30 or so. Ended up getting there
right at 6. Why ? Texas drivers. We had rain, so everyone decided to go
set driving mode to "uber-paranoid" and go 50 mph. Then, about 1 1/2 hours
from DFW, all traffic on the highway stopped.
For an hour.
Glad I had a book.
When we finally got though, I got to see the mess that caused it. From
what I can guess, a semi suddenly jackkniffed and careened over the median
into oncoming traffic...This is a 'very bad' thing. Only saw one car really
demolished...but it also looked like the semi came to a rest blocking the
whole northbound. :( Oh well.
Finally get to Mom's, have a good visit with her. My mom does have an
evil streak in her, she got out this puzzle my sister sent her. 9 pieces,
each with 4 halfs of a butterfly on it. The object, to match up the bug
bits. After an hour and some, I gave up...because I didn't want to be
there all night working on it. *thud* After that foo, said goodnight
and headed over to Amythest and
Nymaz's to crash. Stayed up,
ate chocolate chip cookies and watched Point of No Return with
Bridget Fonda. Yet another version of La Femme Nikita, but still fun.
Stayed up talking a while, then eventually passed out. Overslept the
next day, then got up, went to a local Half Price Books *grin* then
stopped at an Waffle House for lunch (we don't have them in Austin, and
I missed the grease). Then back on the road. Made pretty good time back.
Then on to download way too many emails ;) My wild life, ain't it fun...

Well, I'm sitting here, bored out of my gourd. Waiting on the mail to
show up so I can run errands. Watching movies, doing software updates,
general boredom. So far I've updated Xscreensaver, Xinei, gaim and installed
Stellarium. I also wrote a quick bash script to play with xmatrix from
the xscreensaver package.
#Matrix Trace
#!/bin/bash
xmatrix -window -small -knock-knock -trace -phone $1 &
Just your basic take the input #, and do some neat things with it. If you
have xscreensaver and feel bored, give it a shot ;)
Not much else, reading an article about some
Russian Crackers who got caught. Intresting read. Too bad I'm
honest...and not good at such naughty activities. Oh well...I still rather
be honest. Darn that work ethic ;)
Not much else going on here...about to go wander by the mailbox...*Crosses

Operai has a new

down Opera 7.11 (doesn't come with a slurpee though) and so far, no crashes.
(Opera 7.10 had some issues with hosing at the worst time). I also grabbed
a program called
Cinelerra, for video editing. I'm having issues getting it to install,
something's up in the Makefile. When I'm a little more alert, I'll figure
out what's b0rked. Been playing alot of Starcraft still. I'll probably
start getting burned out in a week or two. Also worked on
Shub-Internet's page, finished up

Again, nothing fancy...just a listing of the boxen here at Chez Cabal 23. Hmm, not much else...maybe I'll sleep...yeah right.

Busy Weekend

Nightwish - Stargazers
|
Well, I had a...err...hard to describe weekend. Friday me and
Rhiannon woke up and proceded to run
errands. Got to see scenes of a movie she was in (details coming later), got a bug in my brain
now about doing video editing. Need to find out what the software is like
for Linux. I know alot of movie studios use Linux for rendering, but I
wonder what the more basic video stuff is like. *adds to his TODO list*
Once we had all that done, came home, helped the munchkin with her reading.
She's been having issues in school, so I volunteered to tutor her. It's
slowly getting better, she's finding out she can't outstubborn me. :) After
that Rhiannon went out dancing, and
I promptly passed out.
Woke up on Saturday morning, and got ready for the
GWNN bday bash. This is a yearly event
here in Austin for the local BDSM community. Drop off the munchkin with
the grandma, and off we go. Get registered, go to a few workshops that
were interesting, if not enthralling. After the workshops, and alot
of drooling in the vendor's area, we headed home. I got ready to go
to a full moon ritual at the local AmTrad
coven, and Rhiannon got ready for the party that night. Btw, more news
on the pagan front, I've offically joined Circle of the Mare as High Priest.
*much rejoicing* It's been about a year since I left my old coven, and
well I've missed being part of a group. And Mare's folks have made me
feel part of the family since day 1. So I'm no longer in a "Coven of One"
;) Well, we did Full Moon, then I vamoosed.
I got to the party a bit later
than planned. I blame Pagan Standard Time issues and the fact I got lost
trying to get there. When I did get there, Rhiannon was not happy, and we had a rather nasty fight. I won't go
into details. We left early to come home, she went to bed...I stayed up and
played Starcraft and talked to a few people online, then crawled into bed
around 2am.
Sunday morning dawns, and me and Rhiannon get ready for day 3 of the weekend.
We head to the GWNN picnic. Had a much better time, and things in general
were better between us. I won't go into the gory details of the activity,
since I don't want to squick out the vanilla people ;) We came home, by
way of picking up the munchkin. Rhiannon then made a yummy dinner, and I
settled into geeking :) Tada :) Currently downloading the latest
Mozilla browser. I should have it
downloaded in a long while. I hate dialup. Not much else, working on the
planned upgrades to Shub-Internet.
Looking at going to an Athlon XP in the near future, thanks to Ebay. Also plotting future upgrades, like RAID5 for the
/home partition and some other toys. But I'll have to be patient on that.
RAID cards are bloody pricy. Oh well.

just hired for their looks and outgoingness, but a nice exception to the

Well, I got Slack. Specifically
Slack 9. After a failed attempt to get win98 working on Nyarlaptop, I went
to SuSE 7.0, in hopes to get the sound
working. (I had it working under SuSE 7.1
a while back). Then back to 8.0, still no sound. :( So, on a whim I
burned the iso's of slack 9 to CD and tossed it in. And ye gods if it
wasn't one of the least painful installs I've seen. Now I started my
Linux adventures with Slackware...and it was hard. But Slack 9 is pretty
much slap the cd in, set media to install from, set partitions and targets,
pick software sets and subsets and go. It even setup X without asking
any questions besides what windowmanager I wanted. Of course, sound isn't
working yet...but I haven't spent any time tinkering yet. Just haven't
had the time with everything else (including my annual Super Sinus Attack).
But I am majorly impressed with Slackware, just for the ease of install.
I wonder how well it would handle a complex setup, like Shub-Internet? Hmm....

But maybe I'll just figure out the sound settings from windows, and go back
to Linux. I dunno. Eventually, I want wireless (and a working battery)
so I can take this box with me on my travels. But until then...maybe I'll
put Diablo II on it and play without stealing Rhiannon's computer ;)

Well, I went to see X-men 2
today. It was very good, not completely canon with the comics, but that is
ok. It's good enough. I didn't think I'd like the change they made in
Nightcrawler/Kurt Wagner (my favorite X-Men in the comics) but it made sense
and was played well. It was a good movie, if a little long and draggy in
spots. But not too bad. Lots of action, lots of special effects. Mystique
is still as hot as last movie. Lady Deathstrike/Yuriko Oyama is yummy as
well. ;) But I'll admit that I still think Nightcrawler was the coolest ;)
Hey, the fuzzy blue elf was my hero as a kid. I just wish they gave him
some rapiers and a pirate style sword fight ;) Oh well, maybe next time.

Well, today I went to the 26th annual O Henry Punoff here in Austin. For
those not in the know, this is when the best and the worst of punsters
get together to see who can make the best pun. (or worst pun, depending on
point of view.) I went with The
Grim Squeaker and SugarFae,
who were down from Dallas. So off we go to the pun-ishment. And suddenly
I'm feeling daring. I'm feeling brash. So I sign up for the "High Lies and
Low Puns" compitition, which is a punwar, winner advances to the next
round. I then sit and watch the "Punniest of Show" which is 90 second
prepared puns which are judged. An ye gods were their some groaners.
That ends, and then it's my turn. Yep, that's me #23. (and yes, I got
that number randomly. Hail Eris.) So I go up for round one. The subject
is..."Bodies of Water". And I go first. I start with "I'm feeling
Superior right now" and my opponent was so slammed he couldn't respond.
Hurrah for me !!! A while later, I'm in round #2, which is a threeway,
(woo) 3 punsters in a row. Ok. The subject is...Education. Oy vey !
Ok...my turn comes, I comment on the college of pictures of my family.
Low groan. Next pass, and I comment on how rabbits are learning higher
math...you know, a hare-trig-er. (groan). With pass #3 I comment on
the ocean born creation of women's underwear (an Algae-bra). Which I am
proud to say, had the judges and the MC's of the event groaning and commenting
how bad it was. *happy dance*. Alas after that, I utterly blanked
on the subject, and bowed out. So I didn't go past 2nd round, but I'm
still very impressed with myself. *happy dance* Next year though, I will
get them. *evil cackle*
