Well I just rocked my own socks, I installed apt-get for Redhat/Fedora.
Now I've played with apt-get before when I was playing with
Debian. Basicly it's a quick and
easy downloader and installer. I tried to get it to work under SuSE
8.0, but had MANY headaches. But, following the instructions at
http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/ it took about 5 min to setup. Quick, easy, and workable. I like.

Well, I made the final switch over to Shub-Internet tonight. So far so good. All the toys seem to be working,
and I'll find what doesn't work as time goes on. I also have
Yog-Software running
as secondary, in case I find I miss things. But I think all is good, and
in the next few weeks will start moving Yog to a dual boot Windows/Linux
box. And then I get to game. :) But it's nice to be back using my
favorite Demon Goddess of the Internet.

Still working on getting Shub-Internet
reinstalled. Hardware is working fine so far, with much tweaking and
tinkering I've gotten Enlightenment
and Gaim running. Now I'm
installing my usual mess of programs. Multimedia, email, image viewing.
Mozilla Firebird instead of Opera (maybe, probably will install both.) With
a little luck I'll be able to switch to using Shub full time over the
weekend. *knocks on wood* And once that is done and stable, then I'll
look at making Yog a dual boot Wintendo/Linux box.

Well, today has been a fairly geeky day. I woke up today, and after waking
up and getting alert I started working on the great upgrade (mark 3).
Step 1. Move Shub's old root drive to Yog-Software. Reconfigure everything to run. This took some
work with getting sound and DMA to work correctly, but I did. Now I have a
working workstation. The big problem with previous upgrades was the
frustration with being offline while trying to get things working correctly.
So, now I'm running fine on Yog, and I can take my time with rebuilding
Shub-Internet.
Step 2. Rebuild Shub. Added the Seagate 120 gig drive and setup Shub.
Currently I'm installing Fedora Core 2
on Shub, we'll see how it goes. I may go back to SuSE or Gentoo, or
gods knows what else...but I can take my time and do it right. Which is a
good thing.

Well, today has been a pretty busy day. Woke up alot earlier than expected,
about 8am or so. (aka about the time I wake up during the work day).
Got showered, dressed, breakfasted and off to the bank to deposit my
check. Came back, got a few things at the grocery store, came home and
did laundry. 2 weeks of laundry. Wee. Then went to a local Italian
place for lunch. Not bad, not great, but the fact it was cheap and a
block away means they will probably keep getting my business. Plus the
waitstaff were really friendly and attentive. Always a plus. From there
I went and got some keys made. Don't want to repeat locking my keys in
my car like last weekend. Filled up the car, decided my little gogo mobile
needed a wash...the total was $31. Ye gods. *shakes head* I miss the
days of a $1 a gallon. Came home, and in general have been a veggie.
Going out tonight to see
Shrek 2. Should be good for a giggle. Maybe doing some geeking when
I get home. We'll see how tired I be. In general though, I'm in a REALLY
good mood. :) Lets hope it stays for a while.

I survived my first dayshift. Not as bad as I thought, very busy in spots,
very slow in others. I think I'll survive fine. And I got some good news.
My 6 month review finally went though. Pretty much straight excellents
across the board (one satisfactory for something about safety regulations,
didn't know we had any). And this also comes with a small raise. *happy
dance* I haven't gotten a raise of any kind since I worked at Verio.
Life is pretty spiffy. Now to get some real sleep tonight. *crosses fingers*
I rock :)

Weekend Foo

The Matrix on TV

Well, the end of another weekend is upon me. 12 hours earlier than usual.
In approx. 12 hours I'll be at work for my first daywalker shift. Yes, I am
still nervous about this. I'm used to nightshifts and their pattern. Not
just the lack of calls, but being used to doing it all by myself without
backup or help. So, we'll see how this goes.
But enough of my worrywarting. Friday night me and the Ufies went to see
Troy. I was of two
minds of the movie. I liked reading the Illiad when I was a teenager, even
if it is rather dry. And I was worried I'd be correcting the whole movie.
I was nicely suprised that I didn't. There were scenes that had me looking
puzzled, but not so many that it made me hate the movie. I do want to know
why there were llamas in Troy ;) But unless you a Homeric scholar, you can
handle the plot gaffs. Of course, the biggest blunder in the movie...
No mention of Eris Discordia. No Golden Apple. Few references to deities
in general. But no Eris ? Bah, the Great Snub Mark II.
Came home from watching Troy, watched TV and read for most of the night.
Went to sleep around 4am Saturday morning. I was planning to get up around
10-11am to help break my sleep schedual. That failed. I eventually got
up later in the afternoon. Went out, hit Half Price books and got breakfast.
Then I went to a friend's, Tim's bday
party. Had a good time, ran into alot of people I haven't seen in too many
years. The party broke up about midnight, walk out to my car...can't find
my keys. A quick search of pockets and house turns up nothing, but looking
into my car shows my keys sitting on the seat. ARGH !!!!!!!!!! After
several attempts to get into the car I called a locksmith. Not as expensive
as I thought it would be, he slimjims my car and off I go. Get home,
watch some TV and try to wind down. Again, get to sleep around 4am.
Alarm went off around 11am, woke me out of a nasty nightmare about being
closed in. Puttered around my house, went to visit
The Grim Squeaker. He got the
Invader Zim
DVD but had never seen any of it, so we watched several episodes.
Funny as hell, as Zim tends to be. Must pick this up for myself when I get
paid. From there I came home, I've not been feeling good. I think it's
just allergies, or maybe a cold. But I'm feeling less than stellar.
So I've been watching TV and reading and generally trying not to feel as
bad as I do. Maybe I'll feel human tomorrow. I better, it's going to be
a long day.

Well Sunday wasn't quite as fun as Friday or Saturday. Lunch with mom was
good, I then ran her around to Walmart and Half Price Books, then home. From
there I was a bad fox and went to Fry's and bought a new 120 gig Seagate drive.
Came home, went to work on installing it. Ran though the
SuSE 8.2 install, but had problems when I
tried to install updated libraries for GTK and Glib. Finally I said the
heck with it, and installed it as a slave of the original 40 gig. Thought I'd
just use it as a /home. Well it nuked 60% into copying files, something is
just screwed up with that old install I guess. So remove drive, restart.
Figure out I have a problem with the latest Enlightenment beta I installed, go back a version...guess what,
my enlightenment configurations are now corrupt. *curse* *lots*.
Do the configurations swap, and resetup Enlightenment...find out the mapped
buttons on my keyboard no longer work. Curse more. I'll have to fix that
another day, when I have ALOT more free time. And when I do it, this time
I'll make sure to write everything down in a text file, so doing it a 3rd time
will be much easier. Oy.
After giving up on geeking, I went to one of the books I got, a study of
the probably murder of Tutankhamen. Very intresting, finished it very
quickly. I've always liked Egyptology, but I know little about it. So it
was a fun read to learn a few new things.
After finishing my history lesson, I crashed out and slept most of today.
Now to start another work week. Wee.....

Quick note before bed. Had a very good weekend so far. Friday
I went to see Van Helsing
with the Ufies. I'll review it later, but in short. It's fun, it's
amusing, it has plot holes you can drive a train though...but I liked it
anyway.
Saturday I slept way way in, woke up and went to a local festival up in
North Dallas. Amythest was working
with a friend of her's selling artwork. I came out to hang out and
keep company. I got a pleasant suprise...Blue Oyster Cult was playing at
the festival. Now, for those who don't know...I'm a huge BOC fan. So this
was a very good thing. Now BOC kicked major ass. They played the trio of
popular BOC songs (Burning for You, Godzilla, Don't Fear the Reaper) along
with a number of tunes I didn't expect. They didn't play my favorite
song (Astronomy), but they did play things like Black Blade and Last
Days of May, which are very good and I've never heard live. After the
concert I dropped Amythest off at her car, then proceded to get utterly
lost getting home. Finally found my way back, stopped by Denny's for
dinner. From there I came home and generally have been lazy. Tomorrow
I'll be taking my mom out to lunch for Mother's Day, then housework and
maybe some geeking. We'll see. But it's been a very very good weekend
so far. :)

Well I had a pretty busy weekend. Spent Friday cleaning house, apartment
is now 90% clean. The bar area is still cluttered, but I'll work on that
later. After cleaning up, I went to a friend's house to hang out with
some friends. We watched a DVD of a strange band from Austin then a
strange sci-fi Hong Kong action flick. Definitely amusing as all hell. The
movie's name was Returner.
Corny name, but
it was good. Came home, read and
watched TV, then went to bed.
Got up early the next day, and went to the local Unitarian Universalists
Pagans' Beltane ritual. This was a big all day affair with classes and
discussion and socializing. Lots of socializing, I ran into a lot of
people I knew from my past. It was a good thing. I also met some people
I knew by reputation. It was good. The ritual was very nice, good
energy and all that. After ritual and socialtime, I went by a friend's
house for a short dip in a hottub, then home to watch British TV and
read Lovecraftian horror. Then bed.
Sunday I woke up late, and headed out for our Beltane ritual. The plan was
to have a number of guests, but well...it was just us plus Nymaz and Jade's
hubby. And the kids. But it was fun, decorated the yard and generally
had a good time socializing. After dinner, a few of us went to see
The Ladykillers. It was a
pretty good movie, but it wasn't great. When it was funny, it was hysterical,
but when it wasn't funny it dragged. But not bad. It had a cameo with
Bruce Campbell but, bad
fox, I didn't notice. After the movie I came home and watched the last
few episodes of Season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then watched
Kung Pow while geeking
and chatting. Finally I went to bed. Woke up today, and to be honest...
I've done little today. Just don't feel like doing all that much. With
work tonight and all. I brought Tru-Namedra (my home name server) back
online. This weekend I'm planning on reinstalling her with FreeBSD. I also need to rebuild ATAthoth this weekend, but that may take a while. I need to find a cdrom to do installs from, or pull one of the
drives from Shub-Internet to install.
We'll see when/if I get this done. Work tonight, lets hope this is a good
week. *Crosses fingers*
