Note to self...while Bawls do not taste half bad, the amount of caffine and other stuff in this thing is enough to make me vibrate into a different dimension, and should be avoided from now on.

Day of Luck Tue Nov 25 23:12:41 CST 2003
Mood: Lucky Music of the Day: %s
Do you feel lucky punk ? Well do you ? ;) I do, it was a damn good day today. I started with running errands with Amythest, then we went looking for apartments. And I found one I love, that I can afford, is pet friendly...damn near perfect. One bedroom, lots of space, few windows. It's very cool, I'll try to post a floorplan in the next few days. From there we went and grabbed lunch, went to the Movie Trading Company (where I was a good fox and kept my money to myself). Then we headed back to Amythest's place, watched Wrong Turn. Good classic style gore flick. Makes me want to not go camping anytime soon. Then we hit some bookstores, where I was naughty and got some books on naval history, then off to Fuddruckers for dinner to celebrate various good lucks. When a little bad luck hit, I had a flat tire. I had a small freakout since I thought I was stuck with a locking lugnut, but not on this tire. So swap it out for my spare, and head for home after dinner. All in all a very lucky day IMHO. I'm skipping some of Amythest's luck, but that's her story, not mine :) So life is good.

Semi-geeky day Thu Nov 20 21:23:33 CST 2003
Mood: Alive Music of the Day: KNAC.com on the computer
Well, I had a fairly productive day. After waking up, and whining about being awake for a few hours, I put Atathoth back together. Yea for fileservers. On the sad side, I wiped out yet more Mp3's by formatting the wrong partition. DOH. They're backed up, but I lost most of my Darkest of the Hillside Thicket mp3's. *cry* Now I have to go to Austin and get my stuff from storage. Well, once I got Atathoth running, I then met up with a friend I did some free-lance stuff for to collect my pay (a heavy 17" monitor and a little cash). Came home, fixed Nyarlaptop (aka blew away the linux partition and reinstalled Windoze.) So I'm back to 3 working computers at home, woot ;) I also went out and got ferret munchies for my guys, plus the usual eating, bathing, etc...then I came to work. So a fairly productive day all in all. Tomorrow, depositing paycheck and laundry. Hurrah for me ;)

Boredom Update Wed Nov 19 12:17:13 CST 2003
Mood: Bored Music of the Day: KNAC.com on the computer
Yep, been a boring few days. My days off tend to be, I have fun at night when my friends aren't working, but days are dull. Saw Master and Commander again last night, still enjoyed it tons. Almost makes me want to go join the British Navy ;) Speaking of which, I did get the first book in the Master & Commander series (the movie is based on the 10th book or so). I'm enjoying it for the most part, other than being left behind in all the nautical terms. I need a translation guide. But I'm enjoying it, and eventually I'll get my verbal sea legs ;)

What else...on the positive note, as you may have noticed, I've been listening to KNAC alot. For those who weren't metal-heads in the 80's, this was the premere hard rock/metal radio station out in LA. A few years ago, they went to an all Internet broadcast format, and I started listening to them when I worked at Verio. Well, it gets dull at 4am, so I found them again. At work, I listen via Windows Media Player (bleah). But at home, I found that Mplayer will play the audio streams just as well, and I can run it from a term window. W00t ! So I get my metal, I'm a happy fox.

Not much else, I should do laundry, or work on rebuilding computers...but I'm just too lazy. Hmm...lunch...yes lunch :)

Master and Commander Sat Nov 15 21:51:17 CST 2003
Mood: Tired Music of the Day: KNAC.com on computer
Well, I had a good day. Went and saw Master and Commander today with Amythest. Now this was a GOOD movie. *grin* I've always loved sailing ships and stories about the Napoleonic wars. And I've heard nothing but good things about the series of books the movies was based on. So I've been looking forward to this movie for a while. And I was not disappointed. Lots of the little details of life on board a British Naval ship. Lots of character study, not just of the big name characters, but of the more minor characters. Very realistic (IMHO) and very exciting. Not in the usual big explosions and gunfire way (though it does have plenty of that). But in things like the running of the ship though the Cape. I don't think this movie will be popular with the average movie goer, the pacing of the movie is alot slower than usual. But I think it's one of the best movies I've seen this year. And...it has one of the worst puns in history in it...*grin* That alone gets it brownie points. Vulpine says, check it out.

Mood: bleah Music of the Day: KNAC.com on computer
Well, my weekend be done, and I'm here at the salt mine. Not much happened this weekend. After the rebuild of Shub, everything was good...til it all went bleah. Seems that cp'ing or mv'ing files from one drive to another causes the box to lock up. Frustrating ? Oh, just a tad. So I get to rebuild my Fileserver sometime soon. I wonder if it's the motherboard, or SuSE 8.0, or gods knows what. I know I'm getting fed up with computers right now.

Saw Dagon on Tuesday with some friends. Very fun, very cheezy, but still one of the better HP Lovecraft adaptations. And the evil priestess/siren chick was yummy, well save the tentacles she had for legs. Which prompted the immortal quote. "For a squid she has a nice ass." I doubt those words have ever been spoken by a human before. ;) Speaking of Lovecraft, I got my copy of The Last Trumpet by Stephen Mark Rainey today. He's another of the new Generation of Lovecraftian authors. I've read a few of his stories before, in other collections. So far I've read one story in the book, and I enjoyed his writing style. Expect a review in a few days ;)

Hmm, what else. Spent Wednesday running around with Amythest as usual. Watched Cutthroat Island, which is always fun. Must see more pirate movies. :) Today was pretty dull, nothing new and amusing. Maybe next week will be more fun. *crosses fingers*

Shub-Internet Rebuild Tue Nov 11 04:13:26 CST 2003
Mood: Geeky Music of the Day: chipmunks-peoplearestrage.mp3
Well, I just finished a 4 hour long rebuild of Shub-Internet. Specifically I attempted to install SuSE 8.2 on the system. It installed ok, until it came to running Enlightenment. Not sure what was flaking about that, but I finally got fed up and went back to the original setup (I left the / partition of Shub alone, just in case. Glad I did.) But I did manage to get the ATA card running, and all the drives from the file server over to Shub. So now I have one computer with almost 100 gigs of HD space on it. I even played with setting up software raid 0 and raid 5 on the box, looks cool...but since the drives are older, I'm going to hold off on raid until I have some new drives installed. So I have 3 extra drives in the box, all named after books from the Lovecraftian Mythos. I need to add one more drive tomorrow, once I get another power cable. And of course, that's the drive with all my Mp3s. But it's all good IMHO :)

Desktop foo Sat Nov 8 23:16:28 CST 2003
Mood: Good Music of the Day: KNAC.com on the Computer
Well, I'm slowly adapting to life with one monitor. I went in and setup 5 desktops on the box, each one with a different cute girl as wallpaper. So far I'm running the following things on each desktop.

Desktop #1 (Rachael Leigh Cook Wallpaper)
  • Pine
  • Gnome Midnight Commander (file browser)
  • Gaim and the chat windows.

    Desktop #2 (Rose McGowan Wallpaper)
  • Eterms

Desktop #3 (Another Rachael Leigh Cook Wallpaper)
  • Opera 7 web browser

    Desktop #4 (Laetitia Casta wallpaper)
  • PAN (linux newsreader)
  • Eterm for file browsing.

    Desktop #5 (Eliza Dushku wallpaper)
  • Misc stuffage

So I've got approx 150% more desktop space, even if I can only view one desktop at a time. I've been using hotkeys to move back and forth, and that's working out really well. So we'll see how well this works all in all. If it does, I may stay single monitor and save some bucks.

Matrix Revolutions Fri Nov 7 00:03:53 CST 2003
Mood: Annoyed (still) Music of the Day: None
Well, I saw Matrix Revolutions last night with Amythest. And, unlike most of the people reviewing it, I liked it. I will agree, Matrix I was the best of the bunch by a long shot. But Revolutions had some good parts as well IMHO. Lots of action, lots of symbolism. A very weird ending. But all in all, not bad. Not as good as I hoped, but not bad.

    Bubba Ho-Tep Tue Nov 4 03:42:33 CST 2003
Mood: Bored Music of the Day: None
Vulpine's Night at the movies. Yesterday I went to see to see Bubba Ho-Tep Monday night with some friends. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Bruce Campbell shows why he is the B-Movie King. He did a very good job playing Elvis as a 70 year old man. It's a good movie, see it if you can in your local theaters, or go rent/buy it when it comes out on DVD.
