Well, another weekend gone. *sigh* Back at the salt mine. Friday was
another uberbusy day at work, but after work I hung out with
The Grim Squeaker,
SugarFae,
and Techie and ate pizza and
watched Master and Commander
on DVD. Yes I am
addicted to this movie. :) Came home, bummed around for a while and went
to bed.
Saturday I woke up to my mom calling me. She tells me she hurt her back
opening a stuck window, and can I go to the pharmicist for her. So
I get moving, head to get Mom's drugs. She's hurting alot, but doesn't
want to go to the hospital. So she takes the muscle relaxers and I spend
a while over there trying to make her comfy. It's hard for me to see
her in that much pain...especially since I couldn't make it better.
Eventually she got settled in and went to sleep, and I headed out.
My friends Nymaz and Amythest made it back into town. We met up and
saw Finding Neverland.
Cute movie, if a little depressing in spots. But interesting. After
the movie we had dinner and I came home to play City of Heroes. (Yes, I'm slightly addicted). Went to
bed.
Sunday I woke up earlyish to deliver Frodo back home. I'm going to miss
that little weasel. They were happy to see each other. Once Frodo got
settled in, I went with Amythest to look for a new baby ferret. At the
first store she found the perfect little weasel. She's a tiny little
girl, very cute...made me want to add a new ferret to my cabal. So we
brought the little one home, Amythest decided to name her Arwen. (Hurrah
for Tolkien.) We introduced her to Frodo, and they hit it off fairly
well. Frodo is just a friendly weasel.
After that, I headed home, was generally bored for a while. Went by
Mom's to check on her and make dinner for her. Came home, played more
CoH, and watched TV til bedtime.
Work today was well...busy. Monday's usually are. Called Mom, she went
to the doctor today, and the doc gave her good drugs. She's feeling somewhat
better. Now much else, slow night...pondering going to bed soon. Sleep
good. Hurrah for sleep.

Well I survived Turkey Day and one heck of a busy week. Btw, yes I haven't
gone postal yet. Still some desire to go postal, but not alot. Today
was Thanksgiving with my mom, a good steak dinner. We both hate turkey, so
every year we try to do something different. This year, steak and potatoes.
Hey, for me that's rare. Was good, had a good giggle fit. Mom's salt shaker
has a large crack that I didn't know about. When I salted my potatoes...I
got ALOT more than I expected. No big deal, it spreads...but for some reason
we both laughed like loons about it. And kept laughing. My mom's a nut,
which is why I love her. ;)
The rest of this week has had little worth mentioning, working hard at
work. Playing alot of City of Heroes. Friends are out of town, so I've been
checking on their cats and fish and the house in general. Along with
the temp ferret roomie, things I do for friends. ;) It's all good. Now to
just survive tomorrow, and hopefully I'll have a good weekend. *Crosses
fingers*

Well, I did a quick upgrade on Shub-Internet. I've had a 256 meg DIMM for Shub for almost a month now, but I
haven't upgraded her yet, no super need and I didn't want to loose my
30 day uptime. But, with the latest kernel upgrade, I had a good reason
to kill -9 two processes ;) So Shub now has 1 gig of memory, and is
running 2.6.9 kernel. Weee for me. :)

Well, I have a special guest for the next week and so. My friend
Amythest's ferret Frodo. She is
going out of town to Washington DC, so I'm ferret sitting. Now to get
Frodo and my boys adjusted. So extra ferret spoiling for a while :)
Additional:
Forgot to post this after writing it...but I let the feezels have a nice romp, they seem to get along ok...not snuggling up to each other, but not actively trying to fight. A little tussling, but mostly Frodo exploring my room, and Winter and Shadow alternating between watching the new ferret and playing around me. No guys, he's not a replacement, just a temp houseguest who needs friends. They do like his food though, so to the store I go tomorrow. I can't deny my weasels ;)

Find the alias or aliases that you've had forwarded to your main email
address for the last 7 years. Decide you haven't received a valid email
to that address in many moons. Set a procmail rule sending that sends
all mail to that domain to /dev/null, to prevent dictonary spamming from
getting though. See the spam bucket go from getting 1000 messages over the
weekend, to 30. Ye flippin' gods. I need to get ahold of the postmaster
at the old domain and have him just kill the forwards, save my bandwidth,
but for now this at least makes sorting the bitbucket a 30 second job.

Well, it's been a weekend. Some good, some bad. Friday was the high point,
went with Nymaz, Amythest and
SugarFae to
Medieval Times for dinner. I'd
never gone before, and though it was kinda hokey, it was fun. For those
who have no idea what I'm talking about, it's a dinner and show, with stage
combat, horses and falcons. I really did enjoy it, and got into cheering
(well as much as I could without a voice) for "our" knight. It was fun.
Thanks to Amythest for talking me into it.
Saturday was housework day, went grocery shopping at Walmart then cleaned
house and did laundry. Watched alot of Andromeda. Then I headed out to meet the
D/FW Ufies List for dinner. They
went to see the new Bridget Jones movie, I on the other hand went home and
played City of Heroes for a long while, then went to bed. Dull day, sue me ;)
Sunday I woke up with the blahs, and it went downhill from there. I'm not
going into details, but it took a long day to come back up from the blahs.
That, and a trip to Half Price Books
. Amazing what buying a few Robert Howard novels will do for my
mood ;) That and watching
Mythbusters. Now that's a show that makes me laugh.
Right now I'm sorta awake, but will be going to bed soon. This weekend was
way too short. I miss my 3 day weekends. I just hope this week is less
stressful than the last few. Lets hope.

Well I had a geeky day today, spent it hacking into an old Linux workstation
here at work for me to use on the job, got it done after a long while of
wrestling with root passwords. Also built a second linux workstation for
one of the senior Unix techs here. I'm turning into IT for the Unix side
of work... *laugh* So now I have a Windows and a Linux workstation, named
Hastur and Cthulhu respectively. *grin* Cthulhu is a nice machine, Athlon
XP 1800 with 512 megs of RAM and a 15" flat panel. Hastur is the Celeron
733 I've been using as a workstation since I moved to the new group. I'll
be swapping monitors (and which machine is primary) tomorrow, using the
Linux box as my workstation, and saving the Windows box for Windows specific
projects and software. *grin* Hurrah for geekstuff.

Just a quick note, I love Half
Price Books. Not only did I get 2 F Paul Wilson novels that I've
been missing, and a Cormac Mac Art (one of Robert Howard's other heroes)
novel that I needed a better copy of. (Diamond isn't fond of pastiches
I guess, or Andrew Offutt.) But, I also got a illustrated edition of
Ramsey Campbell's Cold Print. For those not as Mythos nutty as me,
Ramsey Campbell is a rather famous horror author in England (and to a lesser
degree in the US) who got started writing Mythos stories in the 60's. And
Cold Print is a collection of all of his early Mythos stories. I had a copy
in paperback, but this is hardback...and illustrated. And for $5. *happy
Cthulhu dance*
Yes I'm weird. But I got good books. And more books with strange words
like squamous and eldrich and gibbering is a very good thing.
(Mental note, may need to invest in another bookshelf for the 'weird fiction'
section. Yes, I have a 6 foot bookshelf near filled with weirdness. *grin*
Life is good.)

Well, Day 2 of the week, and I still feel....eeeh. Not really bad, but not
too good either. Came home last night, and I was in bed by 9. Did me some
good, other than way way way active dreams. One about finding some way
out of print and very limited edition of some Mythos stories, one about
being in the military, but the military circa 1800's, but not...they really
didn't have trench warfare back then as I recall. And the last one was a
friend of mine getting married, save the groom vanishes and I was called
to stand in. *blink* Not quite a nightmare....but ;) But nearly 11 hours
of sleep helped some. Today and yesterday here at the salt mine have been
rather busy. Begining of the week foo, but today was calmer so here hoping
it's a calm week the rest of it.

Return of the Living Dead II on TV

Well, another weekend has gone by way too damn fast. Friday I got home
from work and generally vegged out playing City of Heroes and watching
TV. Went to bed and forced myself to sleep in Saturday. Got up on Saturday,
generally bummed around for a while, then headed over to see
The Grim Squeaker. He got a
PS2, and was playing Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas. Amusing game, lots of
fun driving like a maniac and being part of the criminal element. I also
got a late bday gift from SugarFae.
I love the shirt. Arggh !!! :)
From new wardrobe time we went to the mall to see
The Incredibles. I loved
this film, I think it was one of Pixar's best. Funny, but not too silly.
Had some adultish moments, but not too many. A little sappy, but not
enough to annoy. And ye gods, did the animation look good. Making hair
look realistic in animation is alot of work, and they pulled it off great.
The only thing I missed was the lack of a 'blooper' reel, like other Pixar
movies. But that's a minor flaw in the movie. Definitely worth your money.
Of course, since I've been playing City of Heroes, I kept thinking in
game terms...but that just made it more amusing. :)
Today has been very slow...played more CoH, got Steel Weasel up to level 12.
Went and bought movies at the Movie Trading Company,
The Toxic Avenger I,
Return of the Living Dead II
and Tremors III.
No I didn't mean to make the numbers work the way it did...that's just how
things go in my life. Went to the store, got food. Now I'm watching
movies and generally relaxing. I hope this week isn't as stressful as
last week was. Still recovering from the crud. I hate being sick. Maybe,
just maybe it will pass by tomorrow. Being sick for over a week blows.
Oh well. At least it's not as bad as last week.

Yep, I'm still sick. Bleah. I should go to a doc, but A. no insurance and
B. no cash. At least not enough for a doc visit and drugs. :( Oh well,
it's my yearly case of the creeping crud...it will be mostly gone in a few
days. Well, I'm hoping at least.
Work has had me hopping. New position = lots of work. And it hasn't
slowed down much. Today is the first day I don't have 9 things on my
plate at one time...*knocks on wood*
Not alot else, going to the movies tomorrow...assuming I'm not still sick
as a dog. Sleeping, alot of sleep. Not much else. Wee, my wild life.

Ok, I've needed to post about my weekend, but honestly I've too sick and
tired to want to write. I woke up Friday, feeling foul. Or fowl... Not
sure. Went to work, had a busy day...including our Halloween decoration
judging. Tech didn't win, big shock. Left work early as schedaled,
and me and Nymaz and Amythest met up with The Grim Squeaker and SugarFae
to go to The Texas Reniassance Faire.
Long drive, but it went well. Spent most of it talking with Nymaz, since
Amythest was sorta unconscious ;) We get to Houston, and to the lovely
home of C & C, fellow Userfriendly List
members and two very nice people. They opened their home to us wandering
geeks. We sat up talking for a while, then I went to pass out. Succeeded
eventually, after relocating due to a snoring viking ;)
Woke up Saturday, got dressed and headed out. Got to the faire site around
10am. I had a really good time, saw the
Ded Bob show, saw a friend of mine and his musical group play. Saw
ALOT of lovely wenches in garb and general skimpyness. Saw some very
hot Ufiebabes in garb too :) I was also good with my money, spent a bit
on food, and a few knicknacks. All in all it was a good day. Finished up
at the Faire around 6, headed out and found food. Bad mexican food. Not
as bad as some, but pretty bad. Then back to C & C's, where we watched
Clue. Or at least I started to, I fell asleep early...so I went to bed.
This being sick thing sucks...I sleep so badly when I can't breathe.
Sunday rolled around early, woke up, got fed really yummy waffles and
sausage. Never thought of Polska Kielbasa as breakfast food, but it was
good, and easier to make for a horde than bacon. ;) Hung around for
a while. Skippy the Plush Cthulhu
was a big hit with C & C's kids. We eventually packed up and headed back
up to Dallas. Another long ass drive. Finally got home, feeling really
foul. Watched TV, went to bed early. Didn't sleep well...
Monday, woke up ahead of my alarmclock. Bad sign when I do that.
Felt like hell, decided to call in sick. Slept in, generally was lazy. I
had to leave the house fo groceries and rent for my apartment, then back
home to plop in front of the computer. Played alot of City of Heroes.
Steel Weasel is kicking major butt ;) Went to bed again, didn't sleep
again. Today was pretty much the same thing, save no going out of the
house. Just watched TV, drank juice and generally rested. Still feeling
uberfoul right now. Hoping to make it to work tomorrow. I need to work,
and make money. So lets hope for a healthy fox tomorrow.
On a lighter note, Andromeda
is a very cool show. And not just cause it has the hottest AI in scifi ;)
Yep, I'm addicted, so sue me ;) What can I say, I love Space Opera. And
this is opera at it's best. :)
