Happy Birthday to Me !October 17th 2000
Quick note, today, October 17th, at 1:13 pm, EST, I turn 28 years old. So where is my stripper jumping out a cake ? I'll post more when I have stuff about what I did today (besides going into work at 8 o'clock in the damn morning for training) I'm thinking something fun and spooky. Hey, it is a fortnight til All Hallow's Eve :)

Tom Smith and mp3.comOctober 12th 2000
Well I made my first purchase from Mp3.com. And it's from our favorite filker, Tom Smith. It's some of his funnier material, with songs about South Park (Kartman does Merideth Brooks (Sonuva)), Nelson Mandella (Mand(e)lla), the Internet (On-Line Religion), and what Sci Fi should be like (Rocket Ride). Good music, and he supports downloading his music...check him out at the link above or at Mp3.Com. He's worth the listen.

More Job NewsOctober 12th 2000
Well, survived most of my first week at Clearwire. Lets just say it's not the sharpest knife in the drawer of ISP's. Paper copies of everything done, Access database for a trouble ticket system. NT. Say no more ;) But I'm learning the procedure, and also getting to play on the two linux servers they use. Now the fun part, learning MRTG (MRTG is a monitoring and logging software for Internet connections, in a nutshell). Seems one of the Engineering bigwigs wants me handling that. He also had me install a huge flippin' APC UPS (Uninteruptable Power System) that weighed more than I do I belive. So the jury is still out, but that pay thing is hard to beat.

Xinerama FooOctober 8th 2000
Well, I finally got Xinerama running correctly on Nogitsune. Seems that the version of XFree86 4 that shipped with SuSE 7.0 had a bug or two. But the updated version I downloaded works fine. So I'm back to running on 3 19" monitors instead of one 17" one. Also have Feh working on Nogitsune as well. New epplets, all the fun things. Xmms, Licq, Gaim, all is good. Now how much memory X uses now is horrifyingly high, but I can live with it.

And for the curious, the Screenshot of the Day. Nothing too new, but everything playing nice under xinerama. Got feh running in two places, one a simple image view of the lovely Neve Campbell, the other a collage of Fox pics in my collection. It can do that and a lot more, check it out. :)

New JobOctober 8th 2000
Well, I got a new job. I'm working in the Network Operations Center (NOC) for Clearwire Technologies. Clearwire is a wireless internet provider, using radio towers and dishes to provide "high speed" internet. The speed ranges from 128k to 640k. So, it's not better than DSL speedwise, but I think it's more available for people far away from the telco CO's. It's a really easy job, mostly just watching the monitoring software and looking for down routers and whatnot. Not the most stimulating job, but it pays the bills.

More Kitsune6th October 2000
Not much new, added a new screenshot for kitsune. Well, actually I do have something new, running a new graphics viewer called Feh. This is the creation of your friend and mine, Tom Gilbert. It's a graphic viewer as you can see, but it can do more, like create pages of thumbnails, or montage images. It is very cool, and I'm slowly learning all it's uses. Also have Licq and GAIM running as well. Kitsune makes for nice box, and the athlon processor cracks setiathome packets at about 1 every 8 hours. Which is very nice. Now I want to see what one of the 950 mhz chips is like. Once I get a soundcard for her, I'll be using Kitsune as primary box until I get Nogitsune reloaded with Debian, and running Xinerama.
