Merry Samhain, Shadowfest, Halloween, Dia de Muertos, etc. October 31st, 2001
Happy spooky day :) Hope everyone has a great day. :) Now, to decide what scary movie I'm going watch tonight. Hmm, something with ghosts and spooks. A classic horror movie. No serial killers, no vampires, no demons. Just spooks. :)

Story Time October 30th, 2001
Well, the gods of insane inspiration struck last night. I started writing a short story about a disembodied brain in a jar. Not serious, I'm intentionally trying to be as goofy as possible. I don't play serious well...so I'm playing to my strengths, which is bad puns, painful jokes, and references to bizarre stuff. When I get enough written, i'll post it. But first...a teaser...
We've all seen those horrible movies on late night tv. Mad scientist, hunch backed assistant, brain floating in a jar, electrical gizmos all over the place. Insane laughter and the cry of "It's alive!!!" ringing from the rafters.

    Welcome to my world.

My name Brian T. Smith, and I'm a disembodied brain. (that's your cue to say "Hi, Brian." Don't think I'm going to hand you all the straight lines on a platter.) Yep, a brain. In a jar. Yep, that thing in your head, grey and squishy, does a bit of thinking on occasion. That's all that I am. Well, that and some nerves and gangelia and stuff. A little spine.

Special thanks to The Grim Squeaker for pushing me into this idea, and to Steve Jackson for the RPG rules that gave me the idea.

Vim, Konqueror, and other assorted flern. October 29th, 2001
Hey there. Been playing around with Konqueror as a replacement for Netscape on my linux boxen. I like Konqueror, but boy is it not ready for prime time just yet. SSL is not supported out of the box, and I've yet to find how to enable it. Bookmarks must be edited manually. Little things like that. But, outside of these bugs, I like it. It works better than netscape, it looks better IMHO, and it doesn't crash every 15 min. I hate that. So, I';m slowly moving my bookmarks over to Konqueror. Of course, I'm also thinking of using Opera, but still, it's a pain to switch. Netscape may win by sheer lazyness.

Speaking of lazyness, I've started to experment with mapping keys under ViM. Just enter "map F2 :w!" in your .vimrc file, and every time you hit F2, it saves what your working on. Very cool. I've started digging around in the vim files to find out other things I can do. I need to customize how the colors work., but that's for another day.

Happy Discordian Day :) October 23rd, 2001
Look at all them 5's :) Happy Fnord Day :)

New Email address October 23rd, 2001
Well, I added yet another email address...even though I'm not an UnEmployed Bum...I still like the address.

Argh !!! October 22nd, 2001
I hate work. I hate clueless customers, I hate computers, I hate the internet, ARGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm better. I hate bad days. And today is a doozy. Maybe the moon is sending idiot vibes down here, maybe something in the water. But boy, are people tense, grouchy and stupid. Including me. I'm having problems remembering little things, like where Windoze 2k stashing stuff...which urks the customer, which ticks me off and makes me more frazzled and forgetful. *sigh* Oh well, only 3 days after today til the weekend. I hope I survive.

Happy Birthday To Me !!!! Oct. 17th, 2001
Well, Happy bday to me. Today I turn 29. 1 more year of young adulthood, and maybe then I'll grow up.

Or not. ;)

So far, I've gotten some nifty gifts.
  • Six String Samurai on DVD
  • Narcissus in Chains by Laurell K Hamilton, in hardback.
  • If Chins Could Kill, by Bruce Campbell, in hardback.
  • A model of a Shelby convertable
  • And finally, a carved white jade fox, from the Ching dynasty (aka 200-300 years old).

So, so far, it's been a good bday. :) Hmm, I wonder what my 30th will be like. Now if someone will get me Tara Monroe to jump out of a cake, it will be perfect.

  • Cabal23.net Oct. 8th, 2001
Hey hoe, long time no post. I'm glad to announce the launching (sorta) of my new project. Cabal23.net. This is an idea I've been kicking around for some time now. This will be my combination hosting company/ISP and Slashdot style info site. Except, instead of geek news...it's Discordian News, conspiricy stuff, Illuminati crap. Ya know, fun stuff :) So time to start figuring out HOW i'm going to do this. I'm also planning on migrating at least some of my home systems to cabal23.net and a new naming scheme. But that is later. And, of course, I aliased vulpine@cabal23.net to myself. Hey, a fox has to have priorities. :)
