Busy Day Thu Oct 30 18:11:28 CST 2003
Mood: Good Music of the Day: The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - Theme to Spaceship Zero
Well, I've had a good, if kinda busy day. Woke up, returned a few phone calls (Needo> calling to see if the cable was down, it had dropped but was back up, and Amythest calling about some good news.) Then I geeked for a bit, reincoding some AVI's I had to a better resolution. Then I called a few apartments, went and looked at one. Affordable, but the neighborhood ain't so hot, and the demo model looks fairly beatup. So I'm filing that one in the 'probably not, unless I'm desperate' file. Tried to get ahold of a realtor that a friend of mine rented a really nifty older apartment from, got a 'number disconnected.' message, so I have to do a little hunting and see if he's still in business.

From there I went and mailed off some bills, and a certain package for Hunter. Got some lunch, and went ferret shopping. Well, ferret stuff shopping. I wanted to get my guys back on the good ferret chow, rather than catfood like they've been eating, so I went and got Sheppard & Greene's Ferret Food, which I've had a few people recommend. So I got that, plus an extra food bowl and water bottle. So now I'm listening to my guys munching away. The food is a hit. ;) I also got a set of nail clippers for them, I'll be giving their claws a trim tonight after them fill their bellys.

After that, I went to the local comic and scifi store and got my bday gift from my mom. See, me and Mom have an understanding. She hands me cash, and I get something good for myself. We started this years ago, when we found asking her for computer parts didn't work out too well. And forget about books or movies. She drives herself nuts, and that's just a bad thing. Though my sweet greyhaired mom going into a bookstore and asking for something 'On Cthulhu' must have been amusing as hell. So I get cash, and report back. Well, I haven't had much of a chance to go get what I wanted...til today. Today I went and got an Arkham House edition of The Dunwich Horror and Others. By good ol HPL. Now I have all the stories in this editon, but well...not in hardback, and not in this cool an edition. So I got it. *grin* Happy bday to me.

Not much else going on in my life. Nice weekend, if short. But I only have to work tonight, then tomorrow off, then work Sat & Sun. All good things. *happy dance*

For my maxtor 60 gig drive, which held 75% of my mp3 collection. It appears to have gone south for the winter. An autopsy will be held this weekend to see if the patient is really dead. It is survived by approx 100 cd's of backed up mp3s ;)

All I can say is, thank Shub-Internet for backups :)

Vulpine's Movie Reviews Thu Oct 23 00:40:27 CDT 2003
Mood: Tired Music of the Day: None
Well, I've been a movie going fool the last two days. Last night I went and saw Kill Bill vol 1 with Grim Squeaker and Kyshandra. It was a good movie, very very bloody, but alot of fun. Like most Quenten Tarantino flicks, the time line is screwy...showing the middle first, then the begining. Lots of cursing, violence and other naughty things. Definitely, Quenten did his research on Japanese violence cinema. Special kudos for having Chia Hui Liu (aka Gordon Liu) as a Yakuza fighter.

Then tonight, I went with Amythest to see The Rundown. Nice if fairly predictable action flick. Not as funny as I thought it would be, but still good. As much as he gets picked on, The Rock is actually a good actor IMHO. I don't see him doing Shakespeare, but he makes a good action star...especially one with a sense of humor. Both movies are good, and worth the admission price :) Vulpine says, check it out.

Vulpine's Weekend Sun Oct 19 21:17:49 CDT 2003
Mood: Bleah Music of the Day: The Sounds of Silence
Howdy boys and girls (and electrons of all ages). Vulpine's bday ended with a bit of excitment, and a bit of sickness. Saturday morning I leave from work, on time even. I was suppost to be house sitting for a friend, so off I go to south Ft Worth. I was almost there (relatively speaking) when my car starts pulling to the left. Oh joy, a flat. I pull off to the side of the road. Yep, flat as heck. And a nice tear in the side of the tire, can't fix-a-flat that. Joy. Ok, try to remove the hubcap. Note I said, try. My hubcap is mounted on via a screwbolt, which normally I can remove with any flathead screwdriver. Except today, I can't budge the damn thing. *sigh* Get WD-40 from the local gas station, that doesn't work either. Sigh alot, grab my bag and start walking. It's only a few exits from here...

5 miles later, I get to the house. Fall over and get a couple hours of sleep. Wake up, call a friend and get a lift back over to my car. I was hoping that time might have helped, but mostly I was there to get my car towed. Time didn't help, so I call a local tow truck, and get a lift to Discount Tires. There I get my tire replaced for more money than I cared to spend. Then headed back, made lunch, and promptly got feeling very nauseous. And for the first time, I ended up calling in sick to work. This probably has not made me any friends with my fellow zombies, but between lack of sleep, upset tummy and general malaise I didn't think I'd be able to last a shift...much less be intelligent and productive. So I watched a little TV, and dozed off fairly early. Woke up 12 hours later, feeling almost human. So that's my fun weekend boys and girls. Can I go back to bed now ? ;)

Happy Almost Bday Party Thu Oct 16 23:04:09 CDT 2003
Mood: Happy Music of the Day: Testament - The Sermon
Well, tomorrow is my bday. So last night, Amythest and Nymaz decided to throw me a party. Now it's a suprise party, so I think I'm just going there for my weekly hang out with Amythest. So I'm met at the door by a grinning redhead in PJ's. Hmm, things are looking up. ;) She hugs me and then drags me in...where I'm assaulted by geeks with Silly String. Silly string fight...well, more of a slaughter...since I was unarmed. Then, after cleaning up and getting way too much silly string out of my hair, we sit down to snacks. Only a few people could make it, since it was a school night, but we did have Needo and Crystal as well as Nymaz and Amythest. And Squeaker did show up a bit later. But I was happy to have a party, and to have my buddies there. The theme for the night was bad movies, and that was my bday gift from Amythest, a dvd of Rocky Horror Picture Show, which we proceded to watch. Me and Nymaz, as old Rocky cast members did the lines. Badly...it's been too many years. But we had the audience in stitches. And I got a good bit of loot too, not only the copy of RHPS, but I also got a copy of The Sinful Nuns of St Valentine on DVD...which was a religious expience "Oh. My. God." I also got a useful book for Graveyard shift...The Zombie Survival Guide, by Max Brooks. How best to deal with attacks by the undead. All in all, it was a great night. I have the coolest friends :)

Roadtrip Thu Oct 16 22:34:00 CDT 2003
Mood: Good Music of the Day: Testament - The Sermon
Well I had a nice roadtrip on Monday. I went to Austin for a booksigning, Terry Pratchett was signing copies of his new book, and big shock, I wanted to go. :) So, after work I went over to Amythest's and attempted to get a nap before heading down south. Nap failed. So I got up, we packed Amythest's car and heading to Austin. The drive down was good, and we ended up visiting the Texas Capitol. It was very cool, much prettier than the NY state capitol buildings. Got to hear part of a tour going on, including a very amusing story about the Gonzales 'Come and Get it Cannon'. Back before the Texas Independance, Mexico stationed a number of cannon in various towns up in Texas. When things began heating up, the Mexican army went around picking up the various cannon and arms cached. When the got to Gonzales, the townsfolk said 'You can have the cannon when you come and get it.' Which, wouldn't be so bad...save that the cannon was on top of a hill, and the townsfolk...well they knew how to use it. So the troops sent to retreve it failed. Well, about 100 years later when they were having a dedication to a library or something, the Capitol asked if Gonzales would send their cannon for the event. They received back a 100 page letter from the town. The first page said something in the vein of "We thank you for your intrest in our cannon. But we have to respectfully decline. We didn't let this cannon go a hundred years ago, and we're not about to start now." That was page 1, the other 99 pages was signatures of everyone in the town. Hmm, seems they felt strongly. So we wandered around a bit more, picked up a stuffed bat from the giftshop and went to lunch up at Katz' Deli. I had a kosher BLT (beef bacon, it's a intresting taste) and Amythest had a Yankee Pot Roast sandwich. Well, neither lunch sat too well with us. I was joking that Amythest's Southern pride was fighting with the pot roast. So we survived our upset tummys, and made our way to Book people. For those who don't know, Bookpeople is an indy book store in Austin. The largest in the nation, and one of my favorite places in the world. So I got my copy of Monsterous Regiment by Mr Pratchett, read some of it, then we headed upstairs to where the signing/lecture was. We were #'s 18 and 19 for signing, and there was about 150 people total. As usual, ms Social Butterfly made friends with the people around us. Right before Terry Pratchett came out, the Bookpeople staff had a Talent Contest. Amythest was first up, singing a bawdy Rennie song. She got a shirt. :)

Finally Terry came out, and regalied us with stories of his days in the British Nuclear Reglatory Comission. Lots of funny, in that dry British way. One line sticks out, something he wrote for the Library assoc. "Everything I learned, I learned from my local library. School taught me to spit." *snicker* So we laughed heartily, then got stuff signed. Lots of stuff, since half of our friends had things they wanted signed. So we got things signed, and got out of there.

Then we tried to escape Austin. Amythest doesn't know Austin well, and I was having major brain fry from not sleeping for over 24 hours. Finally we got back to the highway, then we couldn't get on it. Construction had the entrance ramps blocked. And lots of traffic. Then we noticed the car had steam/smoke coming out from under the hood, and while we tried to get off the road, the radiator made a nasty popping sound, then steam came out all over. Got the car off the road, and look. Lots of steam, but we thought the radiator cap just popped. Get some food, go back to now cool car...nope, we have a crack in the top of the radiator...running the whole length of it. Curse. Alot. Then we walk down towards a gas station, looking for duct tape to fix it. Duct tape fixes all ;) We ended up in a Home Depot, where we got duct tape and epoxy weld. The good stuff, bonds metal, plastic, anything. Well, FYI...it works fairly well on radiators. We get it bound up, but by this time both me and Amythest are dead tired and more than a little twitchy. Lucky for us, there is a hotel near by. So I get a room (thank gods for plastic) and we procede to go pass out. I remember watching about 5 min of MASH...

The next day, we get up...check the seal. Add more sealant to the seal, and let it cure til noon. Then checkout and on the road. Car seems fine. About 20 min later we stop at McDonalds for lunch, and the car is hissing a bit. Looks like it's not holding pressure well, but not completely dry either. Curse some, then hit a gas station and fill up the radiator along with every water bottle we could find in the car. (Note, this is why you have a messy car.) We had about 7-8 liters total. And the plan is made to stop every 30 min, cool the car down and top off the water. Which we did, every thirty miles we stopped somewhere, got out. Read a bit, topped off the radiator and went on our way. Kind of a slow way to get from Austin to Fort Worth, but it worked. Got to Amythest's about 4:30 or so on Tuesday, and from there I went home. A very tired, but pretty happy fox. All in all it was a good trip, just next time...I'm getting more sleep before hand. No getting queasy from the food. And definitely, no overheating cars. :)

Sleep that is ;) After too many days of getting 3-4 hours of sleep, I took matters into my hands last night and drugged myself. Woke up this morning as Needo was leaving, stayed up long enough to eat a waffle and chitchat online for a min. Then I went back to sleep, and stayed there til 7pm. Oy, nearly 18 hours of sleep for the fox. Woohoo for sleep, boy my body needed it. :) So now I'm at work, and looking forward til when I can go home...and get some more...sleep that is ;)

No Sleep. Wed Oct 8 10:15:10 CDT 2003
Mood: Sleepy Music of the Day: Dead relatives saying 'Howdy'
Well, I cannot remember the last time I got more than 6 hours of sleep in a row. And since I need at least 8 on a regular basis to be functional, I'm learning how much it is to live life though a wall of cotton. Between graveyard, living on a couch and mild stressers about getting my own place, I'm becoming a bit of a basket case. Not a bad one, just not sleeping. And I need sleep. *laugh* Sooner or later I'll get some sleep I hope.

Btw, for those who are worrywarts, the stressers aren't bad. It isn't like Needo is pointedly telling me to get out, or even subtlely. I just worry about finding a place, getting all the utilities hooked up and moved. So my mind works at it, picks at it, etc etc til I'm frazzled. So, until I either learn to not worry about such things, or I get moved I'll be a little tense. *thud*

So if I seem a little weird, moody, distant or just plain off...that's why. Fox needs sleep. Lots.

Thank you Auntie Amythest for the home. We have all kinds of neat places to play, new food and water containers, new toys and ROOOOOOOOM. *happy ferret dance* Ok, gotta go...Winter's eating all the food and having all the fun while I geek...*scampers off to play*

Well, how to know I'm bored.

I've spent the last 3 worknights reading ALL of the Sluggy Freelance online comics. 6 years worth. I used to be a big fan of Sluggy, but sometime last year I stopped reading. And since I wasn't sure where I stopped reading, I just started over from scratch. Now my brain hurts a little, and I keep seeing killer bunny rabbits out of the corner of my eyes, but I'm ok. Ok, I'd be better if it was 7am, and I was home...but you do what you gotta do. ;)

Happy Weasel Shopping Sat Oct 4 00:58:23 CDT 2003

Well, today was amusing. I went to the pet store to pick up assorted bedding and stuff for Winter and Shadow. I got a new cage for them, courtesy of Ferret-Godmomma Amythest, but I had nothing really for them. No toys, a leaking water bottle, and a very old and damaged food bowl. So they got a bunch of new stuff. New waterbottle, new food bowl, they also got a couple of ferret hammocks, some toys (that I'll probably regret since they make noise) and Ferrettone vitamins for them. Spent more than I wanted to, but I'll have some happy weasels. And really, we all need happy weasels. :)

Hurrah for October Thu Oct 2 22:48:56 CDT 2003
Mood: Good. Music of the Day: None
Well, happy October everyone. Here in Texas it's actually starting to feel a little like fall. Cool nights, warmish days, good things. Not much has been going on. Got a PO Box for my mail, slept alot, survived our cable outage. Setup an account with UseNet Servers, a news provider. So now I can get unlimited amounts of pr0n and stuff ;) Life is good when you have pr0n.

Hmm, what else. Made Amythest's daty yesterday by showing up with this. She went hypersonic in squeals of joy. *grin* Always good to make a cute redhead chipper. Not a whole lot else, went and helped my mom convince a bank that I was a real person. Seems they want real ID for people who have power of attorney for people. They didn't need it 10 years ago when we set this up. Oh well.

2 hours down at work, slowly making it though...480 min to go ;)
