"Better Vulpines through Technology."

"I don't work here. I'm a consultant."

Welcome to my page on foxes. :) Well, since my site is called cyberfox.org, and my nickname is Vulpine, I thought it would be appropriate to have at least a small page about foxes. Or maybe not so small. Well, as I write this, I'll be adding my stories about foxes, how I got hooked on them, what they mean to me.

Well, some people have asked me, 'Why foxes ?'. The answer is, I have no idea. Foxes aren't the most common critters in the world, and most people who follow the idea of having a spirit animal tend to go for the impressive critters, like wolves and big cats and whatnot. But in my opinion, Fox choose me, and I'm rather glad of it.

First time I remember being intrested in foxes was back in the 2nd grade. My parents and I were in San Diego, at the zoo there, and the critters that caught my attention most were the foxes. Red, grey and kit foxes. Since then I've always been a bit of a fox freak. It sorta lay dormant until I discovered paganism, and the idea of totems...next thing I knew, I was having long chats with a certain fuzzy character. :)

Once my friends and family found out about my little fox fetish, they took major advantage of it. I've always been difficult to shop for. Now they had a small idea of what to shop for. Foxes ! Now I have a small collection of them. Ok, it's a bloody large collection. Stuffed foxes, ceramic foxes, fox pictures, fox books, fox snowglobes. I even have a few fox pelts. Before the PETA people come and throw paint on me...2 of them were from roadkill that a friend up North tanned, then later sent to me. The other was a gift from another friend. I don't belive in hunting for sport, or fur farming, and I do honor the spirit of the animal who's fur I have. Better it be with someone who respects it, than as part of some yuppies' coat.

So, on to the foxes themselves...my favorite type of fox is the American Grey Fox (Urocyon Cineroargentus). It is the only member of the canine family to climb trees. Like all foxes, it's an omnivore, eating whatever is available. Their range is the southern and western USA. The handsome fellow in the pic below is one. When the colonials came to America, they were rather happy to find a fox, so they could have fox hunts. Well unlike the European red fox, which runs like a bat out of hell when chased, the grey fox either climbs a tree, a cliff or hides in a very small hole. Not sporting of the fox *laugh* The colonials ended up importing foxes from England to provide proper 'sport'.

    My favorite, the Grey F
ox.
