Well, my evening hanging out with
Amythest was fun. Was a theme
night, ghost movies. Started with 'Grave Encounters', one of those
'found footage' style movies which actually was fairly good. At least
I think so, Amythest was a little less impressed. Ghost hunters locked
in an abandoned insane asylum, hijinks ensue. Good spooky fun,
just ignore the cgi effects. Then we went on to a movie I saw for
sale at Walmart last week, 'Kill Katie Malone'. Which is a mistitle,
as Katie Malone is already dead, and kinda annoyed. College friends
buy a box said to contain a ghost that grants wishes, the ghost has
issues, bad things happen. Less entertaining than 'Grave Encounters',
whoever did the cinematography had fetish for dark palettes, even for a
horror movie. Everything seemed washed out. Acting was soso, and the
sound was clunky. Not great, not really even worth the Netflix streaming.
Just...eeh. Glad I didn't buy it. Oh yeah, and comedy relief. Ancient
18th century language...Celtic Gaelic. Ok, it's a nit picky thing, but
well...that's what we do. And it was pretty hysterical.
Then Amythest picked the last movie,
'Gothika'. Which we'd seen a long time ago, but I really didn't remember
beyond Halle Berry doing crazy quite well. Again with the dark palette,
but it was handled better, and had contrast to make the creepy dark, well
actually creepy. Definitely worth the watch if you like creep and mystery
and crazy.
So that was my night. Was much fun, also got to play with Amythest's
ferret brigade. They are sweet, and hyper, and it was fun to tussle
with them. Then I headed home. Now I'm about ready to head to bed adn
read, and hopefully sleep without dreams that bug me. Night peeps.
Saturday, yay for the weekend. Boo for having another in a long series
of weird anxiety dreams about school, moving, and family. I have the
kind of dream, no idea why. But I always wake up anxious and more than
a little depressed. Boo, meh. I did get up, got moving. Went to the
store, was wondering about the rampaging hordes...then I remembered tomorrow
is the Superbowl. That explains a lot. Came home, brought in groceries,
transfered stuff to the new wallet I bought, starting organizing and
cleaning. Watched a Terry Jones special on the history of Rome...which
either I've seen before, or just covered the same ol details. Though
Terry Jones makes history more personable. Did dishes, worked on
the kitchen a bit. Now taking a break, then I'll run trash out to the
dumpster. Then probably grab a shower and head down to
Amythest's place to do laundry
and watch movies. Yeah, I usually do laundry on Sunday, but with the
party and some things Amythest has to do, it just will work better to do
it tonight. No big deal.
Ok, enough lounging around. Need to go pick up the bedroom (knew I forgot
something), then see if I'm spry enough to haul off the trash. Catch
ya later.
At home, yay home. Got Chinese food again, been watching a movie called
'Chill', which is very loosely based on the HPL story 'Cool Air'. So
far it's not bad, not incredibly good, but not bad. As good as a movie
about a guy who needs his AC more than me in a Texas summer can be. Been
removing and adding stuff to Cephalopod, took most of the music off.
Which showed 8 gigs of space used for books and podcasts. Boy am I a
nerd. Plans for the rest of the night? Probably another movie of
the horror variety, then probably the rest of the night reading.
Ok, I'm done adding books...I almost ran out of space. I'm probably
going to have to pull more stuff off it before my podcasts update.
Yes, geek, thy name is Vulpine.
Well, it's Friday. Still not sleeping great, but I'm awake and here.
And caffinated. Had a very odd dream about _having_ to go on a trip/
vacation with people I didn't really know, and had nothing in common
with. Weird. Got to work on time, been a mostly quiet day. One customer
asking for things in a way that makes me want to say 'No, you don't know
what you mean...try again'. Oh well.
Still planning to be a bum tonight, and productive tomorrow. I was
going to go by the dealership tonight and get my plates, and my car
washed (I was in such a hurry to buy it, they never got a chance to
give it the final finishing touches, and my sales guy REALLY wants to
make sure I'm happy). Note for people looking for cars, Kia dealerships
seem to have a rather fanatical desire to get perfect tens in reviews,
so if you like a little fawning with your car (and a good deal), go to
one of their dealerships. Yes, I'm still very happy with the Kia.
Other than the fear of dings, bird poop, shopping carts and other drivers.
That will fade eventually I'm told
Hmm, well since I'm not driving to my dealership tonight, I'm not sure
what I'll be doing tonight. I guess I could still go out to eat,
then go to the local Barnes and Nobel and kill off my final gift card.
Or I might just go home and veg. I dunno, decisions decisions. Guess
I'll decide around 5pm.
Ok, enough rambling. Catch you all later. *tentacle wave*
History, with an attempt to switch over to archaeology. And the closest I've ever come to using either as a security admin, was going through a giant, unlabled patch panel, and labeling each wire with a tiny label. And oh yeah, it was probably 105 in the network closet at the time. My dreams of a dig in Egypt sounded cool and refreshing at that time.
I haven't been sleeping good, I think the last good night's sleep I
got was Saturday or Sunday. Last night I couldn't get settled, tossing
and turning. Eyes not wanting to shut. At least when I did get to
sleep, I pretty much stayed there. Woke up late, raced to work. Forgot
to put on the jewelry I usually where, so that's something I'll twitch
about til I go home.
Not much else going on right now. Which is good since I have very little
focus or energy. Hoping today goes by simply and smoothly. Oh, my plates
are in at the dealership, need to slot out some time to go get them.
Made plans for the weekend, looks like it will be Friday: vegging at
home. Saturday: Day, cleaning and organizing, Night: hanging out and
watching horror movies with Amythest, Sunday: Superbowl party with the
gang. All should be good things, now to just survive til Friday night.
Ok, that's about all I can babble about. Hope everyone is doing alright.
*waves a sleepy tentacle*
I've not had the best few days, and I've vented quite a bit about how
crappy and frustrating things can be. But in the interest of putting
out some positiveness, and so I don't focus on just bad stuff...here's
the things I'm happy about right now.
I have a great best friend, who understood my need for staying home
and vegging.
I have a brand new car that goes zoom, and plays music, and generally
is a good thing
I found a new dish I like at my Chinese place, ok it's yet another fried
rice, but I tried something new(ish). Yay for pork.
Even though work is stressing me out, I'm still maintaining the appearance
of professionalism. *wink*
Due to high levels of frustration and anxiety today, I canceled on my usual Wednesday night hangout. Instead I'm getting takeout and hiding. I'm probably
going to watch a movie that involves people getting slaughtered, and
try very hard not to think about anything but calm, relaxing, happy
slaughtery thoughts. Maybe something with a chainsaw...
So tired. Was up late for work foo, then couldn't get to sleep. Once
I did sleep, I had demented dreams about work. Woke up, grumbled a lot,
did my usual work from home foo. Don't feel too great, two nights in a
row of bad sleep will do that.
On the plus side the dealership called, and my tags and plates are in.
I'll swing by there tomorrow to get them. Vroom vroom.
Not much else of merit. Plotting a mostly quiet weekend. Need to
pick up around here, and I'd like to get some alone time. Well,
except for Sunday...that's the local gang's Super Bowl party. Which
means commercial watching with the occasional football that I barely
understand. But fun with friends is good. So is quiet time alone.
Just me and the voices in my head.
So that's my Wednesday. Pretty quiet, lacking in sleep, but could be
worse. Hope everyone is having a good day themselves, humping or no
humping. *wave*
And livejournal won't take it using sclj. I'm guessing that's a sign I shouldn't post it. Lets just say the Tuesdays of the Damned are continuing to be well, damned.
Well, last night was my 1 week anniversary with the Kia. One tank of
gas, about 350 miles, and a lot of 'ooh shiney'. So here's a basic
review.
Good Stuff:
Cost to fill up is half what the Passport cost me.
Manual, which appeals to the control freak in me
Cool electronics. I can control the stereo from the wheel.
No one looks at my car and thinks 'He can help me move'.
Goes vroom vroom.
Looks really nifty.
Soso stuff:
no electronic locks/windows, annoying.
My ipod and the above mentioned cool electronics don't play nice
New car = fear of shopping carts, hail and bird poop.
Low to the ground = having to reach up for drive through, gate keypad
at work.
Temptation to keep the Sirius satellite radio, even though I rarely use
it
Temptation to check mpg every 5 minutes while driving, in case I've gone
down from 38 mpg...
Bad stuff:
Nothing really.
So that's a bullet point review of the car. I need to add the stickers
I've gotten for it. Also should come up with a nice, lovecraftian name
for it. Ia Ia, Vroom Vroom, Fhtagn ? And yes, I know there are no pics of
it yet. I'm waiting til it's a tad more decorated.
*yawn* Well, it's Tuesday. I have a bad relationship with Tuesdays, and
this one appears to be extra special. Phone rang at 4am...once. Just
long enough to wake my ass up. Glared at the phone, assume the overnight
NOC tech goofed up and try to go back to sleep. Doze off, phone rings
again around 6am. Real call this time. Not network or security, or even
Linux. It's a goofed up Windows box with hardware issues. Aka, something
I'd have trouble thinking of a fix for when I'm wide awake. Suggest a
couple of obvious things he's already tried. Tell him he'll have to
wait for a more senior NOC tech to show up with a clue. Go back to
sleep. At least my brain was nice to me, cause I dreamed of scifi cons
and snuggling a cute geek girl. No one I know, but it improved the morning.
Also, for those keeping track...nope, no tentacles. Still, was nice...
Until the alarm went off. Got to work more or less ontime, been working
tickets and explaining my tshirt. Wearing my Rosetta Stone shirt from
Sigh CO, and it confused some people.
Other stuff ? Have to go by Mom's tonight, have to fix her TV set. My
Mother is a luddite, all the tech genes come from Dad. But the sense
of humor comes from Mom. I also need to do dishes and pick up around
Dagon-Moor. Put up laundry too. My wild life.
That's about all for right now, hope everyone is prepared for the Tuesday
of evil. *bunkers down and prepares the anti Tuesday defenses*
What it should be. "I hate listening to voice mails, and I'm not a huge fan of talking on the phone. So text me. Otherwise, I'll call you back if I recognise the number. Have an eldritch day."
It's Monday, been a busy Monday. Walked into a number of tickets, had
to do some special stuff for the boss which took most of the morning.
Just FYI, I really hate having to remember the differences in network
configs between Debian and Redhat based Linuxes. Damn splitters. Oh well,
got stuff finished up. I have another project, but I'm going to let my
back/shoulder rest a while first. Pulled my shoulder a bit Saturday,
and it's still grumbling about it. Oh well, it should stop hurting soon.
Had a weird dream last night. I had a new job, doing network/server
administration, but instead of for the Shoggoth Pit, it was for some
adult film studio. And I was getting interviewed about it. No actual
porn in the dream, just CLI and graphs and such. Though I did wake up
thinking 'The Porn Must Flow!' I'm not sure if this means I need to
look for a new job, or I need more cold showers. *shakes head*
Tonight is dinner with Mom, haven't had a chance to hang out since around
Cthulhumas. Pizza and driving around in the new car. Then a quiet night
I hope. Not much else of merit going on. Hope everyone is having a
good Monday, or at least a less crazy than usual one.
Busy busy day, got up kind of early, went to the store and got groceries
for the week. Yay for a trunk. Headed home with a cheesesteak for
lunch. Headed out and filled up the Rio for the first time. Averaged
about 35 mpg, not bad for first week of driving a standard. Installed
the new flash drive, 32 gigs of music space. Now to figure out what
32 gigs of music to put on it. Probably should look at a list of what's
currently on Cephalopod as a starting point.
Came down to Amythest's place,
doing the weekly laundry and catching up on TV. 'Big Bang Theory' and
now 'Bones'. Tomorrow is back to work, and oy...going to be a busy
day. Several projects that need my tentacles. Downside, I'm fairly
sure only my tentacles will do. Glad I'm good at my job.
So that's the state of the fox. Vroom vroom is good, got clean clothes,
and watching fun tv shows. Lets hope this week is also positive, and
at least not too crazy. Laters people.
Well, was a semi busy day. Went down to
Amythest's place to help her move
furniture back into place after tiling last weekend.
Nymaz was there, so it wasn't
hard. Got things in place, decided to go to the movies to see 'Underworld
4'. Was good, not as good as the first two, but still was decent.
Kate Beckensale in leather is always good. After the movie we headed
back to Chez Amythest to watch a couple of Dirty Jobs episodes. Came
home early, my shoulder was bugging me. Now I'm watching some bad
fantasy movie and copying files over to my new jump drive, aka the brain
of my new car. 32 gigs of music should keep me entertained. Assuming
everything works according to plan, I'll pull the music off Cephalopod and
put more audiobooks and podcasts on it. We'll see. Not much else
of merit going on, hope everyone is doing ok and I'll ramble more tomorrow.
